How To Create The Enchanted Magnetic Floating Globe?

This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to create a magnetic levitating display from scratch. The process involves placing a ball and base on a nonmetallic surface, connecting an AC adapter to power, and connecting the other DC plug to the base. The ball is held above the center of the base and slowly put down towards the base, adjusting the ball until it feels resistance. The light source is LED, and the suspension gap is 10-15mm.

The project aims to create an anti-gravity globe using magnetic levitation, similar to the floating globes you can buy. Magnetic levitation is a popular demonstration of magnetism, where one magnet can cause another magnet to float. The floating globe is operated by an electronically controlled magnet system, and the process is easy to install.

The basic idea is to make a magnet float by holding it up with the repelling force from another magnet. Magnets can repel each other with enough force, but having enough force to levitate it isn’t the problem. One way to achieve magnetic levitation is to position an electromagnet above an object, such as an earth globe, which contains a strong magnet.

The article assumes no prior knowledge of physics or engineering and provides a step-by-step guide to making your own magnetic levitating display from scratch. The process involves holding the object under the magnets and slowly bringing it up, then pushing the button to float it up.

  • Got a different brand and maybe took me 15 mins to get mine going. Take a lot of patience as you got to get the balance point just right. My base looks like a UFO and has blue led lights. To get it to rotate your better of blowing on it. Mine has never stopped spinning and had it 3 weeks and still spins the same speed.

  • I wonder how long will the ‘globe’ keep turning since there’s no actual friction to slow it down? Am I correct to assume that only the air drag will be a factor, which eventually, will bring it to a stop, or the magnetic field interaction will have some slowing down effect on it? What do the scientists among you say?

  • This looks VERY frustrating! And who knows many attempts didn’t make it into the article!! Seems to me that the manufacturer should supply (and a reasonably handy person could construct) a simple 2-part frame that automatically centers the globe and holds it at the right height, at which point the two halves could be slid-out from under the now suspended globe. Same principal as the wooden framework that builders use to construct an arch or dome.

  • HELP!!!! Anyone got any ideas? Can’t get mine to float AT ALL!!! It sticks to the base off to the side REALLY good but that’s not the reason I got the stupid thing. Getting ready to send this back and….. I’m thinking it shouldn’t be this difficult. I think I have a faulty one???? Is there a trick to this I don’t know??????

  • @nomaed LOL well even with the title ‘How To Make The Magic Magnetic Floating Globe Float’ its still the same. Go to the store & buy one. Plug it in and place the globe over the magnetic field. Its not exactly a skill is it? nor is it anything to actually teach and make a ‘How To’ tutorial about. As you said its not complicated! lol.

  • I have 10 coils 20 magnets mosfets resistors and cannot find time to bloody make mine… however I did just remember ive been draining 2 microwaves for months pretty tempted to try and make a maglaunch system for my model rockets 🙂 but the my hf-emf-lf still pinging and I don’t feel like dieing today 😅
