How To Produce A Lot Of Magic Mushrooms?

Monotub tek is a method of growing psychoactive fungi in a modified tub, tote, or container. This technique allows cultivators to create the ideal microclimate for mushrooms to grow. The process can take anywhere from 4-6 weeks for a complete mushroom growth cycle. To grow magic mushrooms at home, follow these steps:

  1. Inoculate the grain by scraping spores from the spore print into sterile water and injecting them into the pot.
  2. Clean and sanitize your work area by mixing vermiculite and brown rice flour in a mixing bowl.
  3. Place the pot on the stove and cover it with paper towels or a cloth.
  4. Take the lid off the monotub about three times a day and squirt water inside the walls of the monotub and lid. Gently fan inside for about 30 seconds. Avoid spraying.
  5. This book is a comprehensive manual on bulk cultivation of psilocybin mushrooms using do-it-yourself equipment made of common materials. Common substrate recipes for growing mushrooms usually involve coco coir, manure, straw, or hardwood sawdust, but there are many other options.
  6. Harvest mushrooms into a container that allows breathing, such as plastic with holes or cardboard boxes. This method is easy, fast, and doesn’t take up much space or require high-tech humidity.

In summary, monotub tek is a popular method for growing magic mushrooms at home, offering benefits such as creating an ideal microclimate and avoiding the need for high-tech humidity.

  • Psilocybin has changed my life. June 8, 1999 I was in a horrible accident. I was thrown from the bed of a truck going about 40. I suffered traumatic brain injury and nerve damage that left my legs in pain constantly. Nothing would help except for OxyContin that they don’t prescribe that shit anymore so …. Anyway, back to my story. I woke up about a month ago after a white Gandolf trip and the first thing that was on my mind when I open my eyes in the morning was holy shit my legs don’t hurt. I was blown away. I have experienced mushrooms many times before, but it seems the albino strains make me achieve this effect. In the accident I also suffered traumatic brain injury. It’s like my head has been in a fog for 24 fucking years and now it is gone. I think more clear, I say, or type what I want to say, and the point gets across rather than stumbling over my words . This is a miracle drug and I plan on micro-dosing until the day I die if I keep getting effects like I am getting

  • This is definitely one of the best articles to get the basics on growing mushrooms. I’ve watched six or seven articles now and everybody else makes it very convoluted. They get way too into the small minor details and break it up into multiple confusing articles. This one’s perfect A quick overview of the entire process. Thank you so much

  • You are an absolute gem and SO appreciated for all the information you have given us on social media. I havent even tried psilocybin mushrooms yet, but learning about what they can do for me has given me so much hope that I’ve needed for over 40 years of trauma. You have a new follower! Thank you so much for this greatly detailed article of how to start. Keep up the great work!

  • Hi Ashley, Jaye from Aus here and I just want to thank you for your no nonsense approach to the actual title of the article. You have taught me so very much and I am so grateful because a year on it’s still soo much going on and to learn but it’s just so much fun to learn and achieve new and broad types of mushrooms. Between a mate and I changing it up often we have collected about 30-40 spore prints and have successfully cultivated the agar agar dishes. Lions mane was illegal here in Aus for a long time, but now I have a few growths, but I have a magnificent Lions Mane on a tree in my yard where I smeared the agar on to the tree and out of six slices three of them took and formed and is just glorious 🙏🏽 Thank you so kindly, you have changed my life and living with daily debilitating pain from a severe spinal injury I have had no purpose for a long while, but this is just so much fun 💚💚💚 Thanks you again Ashley, much love from Aus 🙏🏽💚☺️

  • I have watched over 20 articles re: this topic, and this one is the best. 1) Sequence: she goes step-by-step, and doesn’t make distracting asides or attempts at being funny, just gives us good information 2) Delivery : She PAUSES after describing a step, allowing you to focus and digest info. 3) Vocal quality : spot-on for an instructional article, not too fast, not too slow, not boring, not hyper : vocal delivery is in the Goldilocks zone 4) article : clean framing, no background distraction, good lighting, good POV’s. This is the article for monotub growing that everyone should watch.

  • Superbly made, clearly spoken and probably the best article for beginners and cultivators. And she didn’t even ask for ‘fundings’ which was very humble of her. When you get this much professional info without ‘push’, it tickles your gratitude to give back. What a great & wonderful mentor. I don’t know if she invented the inflatable bin but it’s a great idea… Much obliged. Now all I need is to buy the spores I need to beggin my farm. I wonder if she has GT or other types.

  • I have watched MANY articles on mushrooms in general and on growing mushrooms. I think this informational article on growing mushrooms is excellent!!! Love the links and your delivery of the information. I plan on pre-ordering at least one of your grow tubs. Just getting into mushrooms and am finding them fascinating. I wish you much luck in your endeavors.

  • Absolutely freaking phenomenal!!!!! I woke up this morning not knowing a dam thing about mycology. I mistyped a word that thrust me head first into this rabbit hole !!! I found out it’s legal to purchase certain spores for “research” in the US ! Its a little after 3pm now and I have 4 strains coming, Stargazer, APE, Hillbilly and Blue Meanie! I went to Walmart at lunch and got all the supplies for the monotub and as much as the bulk substrate I could find as I couldn’t find the vermiculite and I just got finished fabricating a grow closet where I can monitor and maintain the temperature and humidity!!!! Needless to say I’m freaking excited as hell 2025 is definitely going to kick major ass !!!!! Thank you so much for this comprehensive article ! I was able to learn several things I didn’t learn throughout the several articles I’ve watched so far !!!!

  • This article is by far the best I have seen on the subject of growing mushrooms. The step by step, no nonsense and detailed approach that you use, is fabulous. Now I actually feel confidemt enough to go ahead and fruit. Thank you so much . Also the camera and editing work is superb. I live in rural southern England, and although there are plenty of liberty caps and some wavys to harvest, it is seasonal. Also you can wind up getting an assful of buckshot! “Him were on moi laaand!” From an angry farmer. This isnt without reason though because they get fed up with guys from the city trampling crops a d leaving gates open etc, so the ability to grow at home all year round is most appealing . Thanks.

  • You said it at the end of the article, “there are a lot of additional resources on YouTube, other social media,” but this article is a fantastic resource. Good cinematography, great time-lapses, and the information is presented in such a nice and concise way! Fantastic article will be checking on your other info too!

  • Anyone on ssri considering trying mushshrooms, just know that ssri’s act as a blocker on mushrooms. You’d have to get off your ssri for at least 4 days, maybe a week if you’ve been taking it long term. So that may not be worth it to you if you had depression or anxiety and you’ve been doing good on your ssri.

  • Great article! Honestly I would love to duplicate and have at my home, but I jumped ship and relocated to the Philippines several years ago. Pan cyan’s are almost as common as grass here. But honestly mushrooms basically saved my life. I was struggling with PTSD, severe depression and a few other issues. The mushrooms healed my broken mind.

  • I really enjoyed this article. It is informative, capturing, and a well rounded article. I loved that you started off with a kit, showed the whole process of growing, then after harvest you showed how to germinate the spores, and live culture on agar starting the process all over again. I will defiantly be watch this article many more time. GREAT JOB.

  • How can you grow mushrooms without measuring the temperature of the environment and without a pump to exchange the air? congratulations for the work, great Can you clear these doubts for me? Because I saw a tutorial here in Brazil that in the terrarium it is necessary to use a thermostat and an aquarium pump for the mushrooms to develop, but I saw that in your tutorials you don’t use them! how do you get a humid and warm environment for the mushrooms?

  • I followed this article religiously and today I harvested my first flush! I live in Colorado and it was a much longer process than anticipated in our dry and cold winter. Eventually I bought a warming pad used for propagation and that seemed to really do the trick in getting things moving along. But thank you so much for this very detailed, informative, and concise article. It has been such a fun process that I probably will be doing again soon enough. I also purchased many of the items linked in the description as well as the inflatable monotub. All things that really helped with the process! Great work!

  • Thank you very much for this tutorial I purchased a grow kit from my local store and of course these guys didn’t explain anything to me. With your 5 minute start to finish article I need to learn more in 5 minutes than I did in the last 2 weeks from these people. Thank you very much and I will subscribe to anything you put out there. Again thank you very very much!!!!

  • Hii Boomer Shroomer! Thank you so much for this gem of a article! Just wanted to confirm something real quick. I’m trying to figure out a ratio of spawn bag vs substrate. You mention that the weight of your spawn bag is 3lbs (1.4kg). Is that before or after the spores germinate and create mycelium? The total mixture of your dry substrate comes to around 1.1kg (500+500+100) You then add about 3.2 liters of water. My question is – do you have a formula for how much spores to inject (3-5ml) in the spawn bag (1.3-1.5kg) and then how much substrate to mix with the spawn bag? Thank you!!!!

  • getting my first mushrooms from using your grow technique! great article and great framework. I’d remind the beginners out there like me to wait 5 days after your jars are fully colonized before transferring to substrate, and wait another 5 days before switching to fruiting conditions after most of the surface of your bullk substrate is colonized. after going through this process for the first time I can say Patients and sterility are the two most important things to remind yourself of throughout this process.

  • Thanks for the information! One question I had, is there a minimum amount of spawned material needed when you’re putting it into and growing in a monotub? For example if I used what is spawned in a mason jar, would that work for a monotub of the size you’re demonstrating? Or does there need to be a larger amount? Thanks!

  • Your articles are amazing, thank you for being so thorough! I have ordered from you several times. Just wondering if you get to choose which companies advertisements play during your articles. There’s one in particular that popped up during one of your articles that I was extremely surprised by given your content.

  • hello! Im currently harvesting my first flush from an inflatable monotub I purchased from you! its awesome. I purchased a second monotub today, and I also purchased the bulk substrate you offered on the website as well. I have a couple of questions because ive never done bulk substrate before. How many monotubs does the entire 5 gallons of substrate fill? Do you have a good conversion for how much to use for just one monotub? Also, if I mix up the entire 5 gallons of substrate, is there any way to save it so I can use it later on? Thank you!

  • THANK YOU this seems easy enough to follow and you have convinced me to make the final commitment with growing my own mushrooms. Where again, if you don’t mind me asking, did you buy your spawn bag and spore injectors? I want to go with a reputable source and don’t feel comfortable making my own homemade blend as a newbie at this time LOL. Also….I would totally buy one of your monotubs if still selling/making them.

  • WOW, What an amazing informative article, how you got so much detail in 15 minutes is beyond me. I remember the shroom articles I was used to would be 22mins long and barely cover a single chapter as well. I was wondering if you had any advice on someone who wanted to start researching psychedelic mycology and where they’d get there first spore set from?

  • Thank you so much♥️ you have inspired me!! I’ve watched so many articles, but yours are the ones that have been most informative. I’m finally taking the plunge! 🙂 This may be a dumb question, but I’m assuming the foam plugs need to be sterilized after each use..is this right? Do I just spray them down with the alcohol and let them dry?

  • Thank you for this amazing article. You made it so simple! I’m about to harvest my first ever flush and I have learned so much from you and the process of growing them. Biggest take away? Be patient and Trust the Shrooms. They do most of the work! Edit: Do you rehydrate between flushes. I’ve seen some do, some don’t. Opinion?

  • I did everything you showed in the article and it works, but the Myzelium is colonizing way slower ( after 14 days it looks like 70% of the surface colonized) Humidity is very high (90% or higher) Temperature around 78 Fahrenheit. My first question is: Should it stay dark during colonization or is it indifferent? Other question: The Surface looks somehow dry, the tub itself contains a very high humidity and I want to take action to support an ideal growth. Thanks in advance for your assistance. 🙏🏻😊💙

  • Hi Ashley! Your presentation is thorough and fantastic! I agree wholeheartedly with Nathan’s comments below…and I have the extra credibility of having been a TV and film producer for 33 years. Long before anyone with a phone and a mic could call themselves a producer or director…a handfull a talented people were paid by Hollywood, New York, Dallas, and Miami to produce expensive products on film and 1 or 2″ article tape. I was one of those folks. You are vivacious; engaging; linear; easy to follow and instructive. I rate you an A+. Bravo!

  • Awesome article, I have a couple questions! For the spawn bag you inoculated with agar, did you use the live culture agar dish or the agar dish that you put the spores in to inoculate the bag? Also, do you only get 2 fruiting cycles before you need to replace the substrate, or did you only show 2 and then switch over to agar inoculation in order to cover all of the facets of growing them? If more than 2, how many fruiting cycles will you generally get from one “round” of substrate?

  • I really love how you explain the reason for doing certain things, amazing educational content! Now I was wondering, for someone with no experience growing any sort of mushrooms ever, would it be possible to use a grow kit at first and after the 1st/2nd flush transfer the cake into your bulk substracte to get additional/larger flushes? I’ve read about people who dumped those kits into their garden/compost bin and still got some mushrooms out of it so that’s where my question is coming from. Thank you very much once again!

  • Only thing I noticed was aerial mycelium, which appeared to start before fruiting. This is caused by too much carbon dioxide and/or too high humidity. A small fan pulling air out and fresh air in through the filters while waiting to fruit will help. Aerial mycelium can cause a smaller harvest. Otherwise, great article! Have a 🍄

  • I don’t have much new to add, but this is a great tutorial. All the details and tips you really need, but still concise. I clicked on this trying to learn more about grow tubs, and you took me all the way through getting the spore prints, and you make it all seem very doable. Thank you so much Boomer Shroomer.

  • I must say…It is very refreshing to see these techniques finally demystified for the masses…everything she shows is spot on and will lead you to complete success. I salute you and will support your website from here on. Thanks for doing this for the masses😊. I’m sure in the future there will be more article on grain and sterile tech but from what you have here you are good to go.

  • Ashley, this is a wonderful review to walk a new grower, step by step, through the process. I learned 3 things from your experience. 1) Don’t mix the spawn bag too much when inoculating. Let the hookups happen. Then mix well when the spawn bag/jar is colonized about 30 %. I was mixing too much with the initial inoculation. 2) Add more Calcium Carbonate. I was only adding 1/8 cup. More is better. I also add a nitrogen source. Which always helps! 3) When making a spore print, let the condensation evaporate under a tub for a few hours before wrapping up in foil. I was at a loss of what to do with the moisture on a fresh print, and scared of contamination if I let this moisture evaporate . Cover with a tub…..good idea. One question. I always get a ton of moisture raining down on the agar plates. I turn them upside-down, and still get a lot of condensation on my agar and wonder what you do. I store them up-side-down. Any suggestions or maybe a tutorial on this topic……? Great work and good articles.

  • I just had my first bag start fruiting. It seems like it’s on it’s own schedule and mostly side-pinning, which is ok as I expected nothing to happen. Right now I’m trying to figure out when to harvest them(Golden Teacher). The best I can tell is just before the veil breaks unless taking sport prints.

  • Omgoodness you’re amazing!! Thank you so much for making this so easy. When I first started researching the grow process I was so overwhelmed and intimidated. Not anymore! I’ve got two of your bundles (with the T-shirt’s-one for me, one for my daughter) in my cart. Please never stop doing what you’re doing! ❤❤❤

  • Good morning! I am new to mushroom growing, and have hired you as my mushroom guru. Lol I just ordered two of your inflatable bags, and they will be here Monday. I just checked my green bags, and two of them actually have mushroom stocks and tiny pinheads growing in them? Is there something that I can do to promote the growth? Have a screwed up? Is it still worth putting them in the tub’s, should I open the bags? Anything is very helpful. I appreciate your time.❤

  • If youre using your bathroom, like most of us probably… and this might be obvious but im gunna say it anyways, clean and sterile your bathroom. Floors, counters, toilet, everything. Might be alot of work but it beats wasting a month and having to start over. And youll have a clean bathroom afterwards

  • Awesome article. Very clear and concise. Definitely one of the best start to finish tutorials I have ever seen. I do have one question though. In regards to field capacity, following your substrate recipe precisely, what should I be looking at the next day after the pasteurization process? A soggy mixture or one that more closely resembles the traditional ‘barely able to squeeze any liquid from it’ mixture?

  • Hi Ashley. I don’t know if you’ll ever see this. But I’m a new mushroom grower and I’m from europe. So, I don’t know what the measurements is for the bulk substrate, as you are using cups. Would you mind to tell me what 1 cup is in grams or ml’s? Love your website btw. You don’t drag out the info that you’re giving out. And that’s highly appreciated. 🙏🏼

  • I’m wondering about light. I see you using it for fruiting – not sure if you did for the spawn bag. Lots of people seem to think 1/2 light, 1/2 dark each day even helps colonization in a spawn bag. One guy documented how the side of his spawn bag without light wasn’t developing enough. The light thing is sort of confusing.

  • Mushrooms took my hand and showed me that reality is constructed in a huge factory run by little hidden creatures. While I was distracted by the beauty of that machine she surprised me by showing me that I’m one of the creatures in that cosmic factory as well, who is merely suffering from the illusion that I’m a human living in the Universe that was think we know. As I was coming to grips with that, she showed me that myself and all the other creatures running the machine are actually just singular, primal points of observation — possessing no other actual attributes than the pure ability to know. Before I could process all of this I was gently transformed back into my body and sent home again.

  • i have a question…!! i want to grow my own mushrooms and this article is very helpfull thank you.. but an old friend who once told me that he needed to give the mushrooms some sunlight overday and full darkness at night.. my question is… is that true.!?!?! olso, i didn’t know you had to be so sterile with fungus XD
