This video demonstrates how to disassemble Apple’s Magic Mouse 2, which was released in October 2015 and features an integrated lithium-ion internal battery. The mouse is made of aluminum with a smooth multitouch panel, giving it a buttonless appearance. The Lightning port and battery can be replaced as a single component, independent of the logic board, if you can get the necessary tools.
The Magic Mouse 2 is temporarily useless when wired, but can be used as a mousepad if you plan to use your forehead as a mousepad. Since June 2017, my Magic Mouse 2 has stopped working properly, unable to move the cursor. After prying up the black plastic internal frame, we can view the sensors from the Apple logo up.
After using heat and prying tools, the mouse is partially released from the gluey mess beneath. Use a piece of paper or small postit notes to slip into the gap between the top and base (the crack that closes when you click the mouse). The hardest part is removing the plastic ring around the edge of the mouse body, which is strategically placed around the plastic ring.
A dead device is always in better use when it is disassembled for better repair. The Magic Mouse 2 repairability score is 2 out of 10 (10 is easiest to repair), and the Lightning port and battery can be replaced independently of the logic board.
