Online told me that the place I got an interview from takes 1 to 3 months for an acceptance or deny response. The interviewer told me she need to interview other people. Idk if that true or I blew it. I would be disappointed that I didn’t get the job, because the job stated that I could also be helping out in 2 other departments beside working in my department, which I have 2 college degrees, which let me cover all 3 departments. Richard, I want to thank you for all the advice in your articles but most importantly this episode at 3 min, both the follow up to being interviewed and hearing back from the employer to be told you have been rejected. I went through this very same situation just this past Feb. 11th after having gone through multiple conversations and interview phases. I used your template as a response to the HR contact who informed me as well as with the Gen. Mgr. to whom I’d expected work for. It is worth noting that prior to this taking place, during a lunch meeting before the Gen. Mgr. set up a conversation between myself and HIS boss, the GM had mentioned seeing me in another role further along in time. Upon hearing back with the rejection on Feb. 11th I took your advice to heart, considering this as a positive learning experience, and added to your template “or you feel there is a position more aligned with my profile”. Turned out that this past March 7th I got a call from the GM saying he’d convinced upper management that I was better suited for another role that the organization created and after a verbal job offer I received it in writing on March 9th. So I had conducted a series of interviews with a dream company of mine to work for (Bed Bath & Beyond) and they left word with me that “HR will be getting in touch with you to have the conversation they need to have with you” and that was on July 30 and today is August 24 and I had contacted a few people in HR since then and they said they are still in the process of assessing viable candidates. I have another opportunity lined up and am expected to start next week however, the position with Bed Bath & Beyond is still “in process” according to their career portal site. She looked me up in her system and said that a decision hadn’t been made, the hiring manager has been busy with another project that needed their attention and also doing some training (ugh hopefully not for the position I applied for) and that they will be in contact. She asked me to hold on while she types out a f/u email to the hiring manager letting them know I f/u and am still interested. She read back a summary of it to me and said she’s sending it off. It’s been two weeks since then and nothing. I really wanted this job. I don’t know what else to do. If I was not selected why can’t these companies just let you know so you can move on? I don’t understand the concept of follow up at all. The interviewers are in an important position – hiring people -, so they must have basic communication skills and they can use the phone and email. If they promise to call the applicant back and they didn’t even send a letter saying “Nope”, why would anybody waste more time for them? What is the possibility that they are still interested but they lost contact information / their office in fire / lost their phone and they don’t just simply think the applicant is not even worth an email after an interview? – which is rude in my opinion.

Hello Maddie, I think your articles are over the top of AWSOME! However, I am just so discouraged because I simply do not acquire these communication skills to have ace the interview! I also have a hard time digging deep and analyzing my skill set to even prepare an appropriate resume to add all the value to myself 😩☹️ HELP ! and I actually do have experience
I received a casual call from the HR, regarding an update on my application he had few questions for me, I managed to get through those questions with the help of your impeccable coaching, at the end of our conversation he concluded by adding that he’s going to forward my resume to the manager and arrange a zoom interview in next 2 days but I haven’t received any confirmation from him yet, no email or calls, should I consider it as a NO or should I follow Up? I have sometimes felt that if I email then the other person would take it as harsher reminder, you know because it is on record and probably their managers are marked in the thread. I sometimes prefer a phonecall or a text msg if that will help the junior HR associates without involving documentation.
i followed up but then i got bad news instantly. And it’s not because i followed up, is because they find out i had two termination warning in my previous company. It was a long story to why i get termination warning, and it was too personal for me to share because the manager from previous company had been purposely setting traps and making me being at fault all the times, or my manager complain me for going for lunch break more than 1 hour when i did informed her i will go lunch with the rest of the engineers and they all ate so long, and sometime it was due to long queue at lunch, but my manager took this personally and reported me to higher management. I didnt want to share this shameful experience to the company i’m applying, and i lied to the company i’m applying that i am just looking for opportunity in every interview i go but then some company always do a background check before employing someone.. and the manager from my previous company will definitely tell them that i had termination warning previously.. any advice to how i can deal this? i am so negatively impacted that i feel like i cant survive in office work anymore and sometime i thought of joining f&b career starting from fresh.. 🙁
Hi Madeline, I’ve had the HR interview for a job I REALLY want. I think the interview went really well (thanks to the prep I did based on your articles) and the recruiter said she would be meeting with the hiring manager the following week. I sent a thank you email the day after the HR interview, and a follow up email on the Monday following the week that the meeting with the hiring manager was to take place. It’s now been a week since my last follow-up email and I haven’t heard back from the recruiter. Should I continue to follow up every week or so until I get a definite answer that I’m no longer in contention?
I have been both call and email. I generally get the email saying ” We have moved on with other candidates.” I have NOT gotten to speak on the phone with anyone who says I have an offer for you. The only offers I got via email was one that took nearly 2 years to produce the position. I worked there for over 2 years. Since then 3-4 offers have come my way, took 2, both mistakes, both fired me… Bottom line I am working for an agency to pay my bills. I just put in for a DON position that I got by word of mouth. I am hoping the mostly “fill in the blank” Cover letter that I sent will propel me into an interview. This type of placement would be very beneficial for me. I need to find an office position. I do not need the best benefits package, nor the highest market pay. I need to get on with a great team and make our Office the best place to work, with the happiest of clients and staff.
1. I sent my CV on the job announce page. 2. I looked who worked in the company and connect with few of the employees on Linkeldn and they accepted my request. 3. I sent an email to the HR and CEO i am interested in this job role here is my cv take a look. 4. HR replied send ur cv on this job annonxe page. 5. I got a job interview 6. In the job she said we will compare canditates and once who move on to 2nd interview we will email them. 7. After interview, i connected with HR on Linkeldn and she accepted and sent her on email thank you email after the interview. 8. It went one week she has not replied with anything. 9. I emailed her the follow up email today. 10. HR replied we are selecting canditates, hear from me when we r done Have a nice day. 11. Is this positive / negative reply from her?
