In Elden Ring, players can increase their Spell Slots (Memory Slots) by collecting Memory Stones. To learn new spells, players can search for Memory Stones by killing bosses or visiting Waypoint Ruins Cellar. They can choose to focus on spell casting or simply dabble in simple spells to gain more options. Each Memory Stone unlocks one additional spell slot, up to a maximum of 10.
Memorizing Spells is a base stat in Elden Ring, representing the number of slots available for memorizing Sorceries and Incantations. Players can find sorceries and incantations in various locations such as vendors, scrolls, prayer books, and magic-centric items. Leveling up your Mind stat is the easiest way to get more Memory Slots in Elden Ring.
Collecting Memory Stones from around the world is the most common method to increase Spell Slots for the current character. Arcane Books can be found in The Lands Between, which grant players new spells for combat. Spells can be found throughout the game and from various vendors.
To increase memory slots, players can find Memory Stones by finding them in towers scattered around the world. They can also find staff early on in the game by traveling to the Demi-Human Forest Ruins in the Weeping Peninsula. To search the game’s open world for Memory Stones, players must gather them from various sources, such as vendors, scrolls, prayer books, and magic-centric items.

I got the Rock Sling spell and the Meteorite Staff early, and while the spells mentioned in this article are all amazing, for bosses I can’t recommend this combo enough. The Meteorite Staff can’t be upgraded, but it still out damages my +15 Academy staff(with an S scaling in INT) and the Rocks it shoots deal ungodly amounts of damage, because the Meteorite Staff almost doubles their damage with its special effect.
Opening that trap chest, you can actually leave that cavern into a giant red swamp. Exploring the area to the right of there, you should find what looks like a crumbling church, and in its basement is the Rock Sling spell (I think that’s it’s name?), which is immensely powerful, in exchange for eating a lot of FP.
In the desert zone (east) at Shellia town (ghost town) when you light all the 3 beacons on top of the towers you unlock a Double boss fight. After you defeat them you will get the Lusat’s Glinstone Staff from a chest in the boss room. This staff needs 52 Int to wield and becomes more powerfull than then meteor staff at +5 +++
Another trick if you want to grab the Carian slicers spell’s (FP-4) big brother the Carian Greatsword spell (FP-16) at the start of game….. (Note …. you will need 24 Intelligence to use the spell, but how can you be an Uber sword mage without a magic 10foot sword that can hit entire crowds) * Do the “bypass the Stormveil Castle run around” till you get to the Lake-Facing Cliffs grace point behind the castle (plenty of guides for it) * then look over the edge there are a couple of horizontal “tombstones” down the clifface * You can jump down 2x and then dash double jump with torrent and you will able to access the Liurnia Highway before the First big boss. * Run north along highway….. duck, dodge and dashing to the Artist’s shack (seriously as enemies here can mess you up quick early game) * then run jump along path across the crevasse behind shack * then simply follow road and head NW at the fork straight to the Church of Vows for your Giant Turtle npc merchant grab the bonus treasure chest for a fun gift and pay 10k runes for your new Carian Greatsword spell and let the fun begin.
You know you can easily skip the castle right? Where the woman is that reads your fingers on the broken bridge you just keep going, drop down, there’s a beetle with a shield ash that is pretty awesome too, then you just scoot round the side and bam you skip the castle, you can get the awesome scroll for the upgraded pebbles at the start of the game.
Meteorite staff is much better and you don’t need to kill anything to get it The next time you probably want to switch your staff is when you can level up Glintblade staff to about +17 Other good staves are: -Staff that boosts moon sorceries (and requires a ton of INT) -Staff that buffs your magic, but increases the cost of your spells
I couldn’t find any scrolls and for some reason the lady you give the scrolls to isn’t there anymore for me. Thanks for not going to deep into the game just covering the basics is great! Edit: found out what happened. Apparently o attacked/killed her in another region and you have to go to the “church of vows” talk to a turtle and turn in your scrolls.
After a few minutes of testing (4-5 different enemy types in limgrave, and both the glaive wielding centipede looking enemies as well as the miners in the sellia crystal tunnel) I already have to say that swift shard may not straight up ‘compete’ with pebble for damage and it certainly does not have less than half the mana cost. Results may vary per enemy but I got somewhere between 2/3 and 9/10 the damage of pebble per cast depending on my target, and for almost 1/3 less mana cost. From 7 down to 5. Less than half would be 3 (if only). Still a great spell and the added speed certainly adds value that would justify the (on average) slightly higher FP cost to damage ratio. Thinking of replacing my pebble with it anyway but the info provided here was incorrect. Other than that great article, was a big help. ^^
Hey man good article its nice and informative and spoiler free so nice! But it shouldnt have the article title all sorceries and a thumb nail saying the same thing cause its not just from what ive found alone thats not accurate you’re missing full moon, crystal burst, night shard and its upgrade, terra magius or however it’s spelt etc. Atm your titles a bit click bait like.
not gonna lie. josh’s habit of focusing on the meta even if he is not trying to, kind of annoys me a little bit. i am interested in this game already and i want to try stuff. but if people are going to go on a tangent of do this, thats not effective, this is best. especially if those tangents are against some skills that look cool. i am gonna decide against getting it. for example, if i want to make a dragon and someones “oh no no no. you do not want to do that. thats not effective. you want to do THIS BUILD!” and then gush at the build on and on and on about the DaMaGe. then i’ll regain my hatred of soulsborne games. i may ask for help on a build and how to work stuff out but i still want to keep some bits of what i want to enjoy. i have had that much stress and pain from that from champions online. i couldn’t keep on themed dragon based super hero without someone nosing in on my damage and then start trying lecture me on whats the most efficient build i could go for. i hated it, and then i started to hate challenge in tandem just because i felt like it encouraged that habit. and then thats how i directed my aim against soulsborne. also it explains why i am burning out on monster hunter faster and faster.
So I already have all these? Also the meteorite staff is stronger and you don’t have to fight any enemies, just dodge them, it may be intense to get for new players but it’s located on the west side of the caelid lake in some ruin (in the water) it should be hanging out a window just barely where you can get it from the outside, just walk along the outside edge.
For those who don’t know. In terms of FP cost, the greater glintstone variants aren’t for just damage. The poise breaking potential is better AND if you want go farm runes efficiently early on, you need to try to go for OVERKILL damage. Overkill damage increases your Rune per kill by 25% so long as the damage you did to kill the enemy is 150% of their HP. If you can one shot enemies with your smaller variants, you can then switch over to the bigger ones to farm runes faster on the enemies you know you can easily one shot.
For an early game staff the Demi-Human Queen’s staff will suffice. But the best staff in the game I’ve found so far is the Rotten Crystal Staff. Out of the eight stave’s I’ve found, it has the highest Guarded Damage Negation stats, high Sorcery Scaling, and the highest level of Physical attack power. Ramp it all the way to +10 and that thing will melt almost anything.
Awesome! Was wondering how to better my build and this is the ticket! Haven’t gotten out of Limgrave yet as I’m taking my time (also some cheesy level grinding) and actually missed a couple of these spots! Only sad part is I have to teleport myself back into the mines of DOOM for that spell. Lol. One question, can I re-open the chest to get right in there or would I have to go all the way back to the Grace nearby outside to get there? Gonna be a much more arduous journey to the chest if so.
I really feel like compared to the older games caster really got the fat shaft this time around. Feels like theres not really alot of variation in glint spells and it hard af to get most of them unless you searching for them. Melees slap hard af (rightfully so since your in the danger zone) and faith spells are all over the damn place in common zones. I’ve grow bord using the same 3 spells over and over and over. The list of spells in previous games were in the 20s – 30s. Now it feels like there is maybe 10 spells max.
It is very weird seeing someone use their staff in the right hand. It is how I started using them in DS1 but found out it can be better in the left along with a shield to swap and right hand have your main non magic weapon. But their is no wrong way to play, it is just something I havent seen in a while. Good article.
