Presenter Of The Param Vidya Chakra Award?

The Param Vir Chakra (PVC) is India’s highest military decoration, awarded for the highest degree of valour or self-sacrifice in the presence of the enemy. It was introduced on January 26, 1950, and has been awarded to 21 winners, with 14 being posthumously and 16 arising from actions in Indo-Pakistani conflicts. Of the 21 awardees, 20 have been from the Indian Army, and one has been from the Indian Air Force. The Grenadiers, with three awards, have received the greatest number of Param Vir Chakra awards.

The PVC was designed by Swiss-born woman Savitribai Khanolkar, who had a profound understanding of Indian culture. The award is presented for acts of gallantry on the battlefield, on land, and is given to those who have demonstrated great performance during the time of war. The Ministry of Defence invites recommendations twice in a year from the Armed Forces and Union Ministry of Home Affairs for gallantry awards.

The Indian Air Force received only one Param Vir Chakra to date, awarded posthumously to Fg Off Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon in the 1971 War. The PVC is a symbol of India’s commitment to its soldiers and their families, and is a testament to the country’s dedication to its military and its people.

Subedar Major Yogendra Singh Yadav, PVC, is the youngest person ever to be awarded the highest gallantry decoration of the country during wartime, the Param Vir Chakra, at 19 years old. His actions led to the capture of major features of the Tiger Hill complex by 18 GRENADIERS. On July 4, 1999, he volunteered to lead a Ghatak commando platoon to capture three strategic bunkers on Tiger Hill. Despite being hit by three bullets, he continued climbing and crawled up to the Pakistani bunker, lobbed a grenade, killing four Pakistani soldiers on the spot.

His charge cleared the way for the rest of the platoon to climb up the cliff face. Despite being grievously injured, he charged towards the second bunker along with seven soldiers, capturing the bunker but only surviving with 15 bullet injuries, two hand-grenade wounds, and an arm hanging from tendons and skin. This unparalleled act of bravery earned him the country’s highest wartime gallantry decoration, the Param Vir Chakra.

Major Somnath Sharma, born on 31 January 1923, was the first recipient of India’s highest gallantry award, the Param Vir chakra. He was commissioned into the 8th Battalion, 19th Hyderabad Regiment (later 4th Battalion, Kumaon Regiment) on February 22, 1942. Sharma’s recognition was due to his efforts in protecting the Srinagar airport during the Pakistan-led tribal revolt in 1948. His actions thwarted the attack by Pakistani raiders and allowed the Indian army to fortify defenses around Srinagar, preventing Kashmir from falling into enemy hands.

Major Sharma’s professionalism was evident during World War IInd’s Burma campaign against the Japanese. One memorable event during the campaign was when his orderly, Bahadur, was badly wounded and unable to walk. Despite instructions from higher authorities to leave him, Somnath refused, eventually saving his life. This spirit still highlights the ethos of the army today, as the army never leaves any of its brethren behind on the battlefield.

  • A common thread that links the citations that all our brave-hearts get ….. “apni niji suraksha ki parwah na karte huey”. A single sentence that embraces the valour of all those who have taken up cudgels to defend our motherland, until their last breath. An emotion drenched Nation can only express everlasting gratitude 🙏🙏🙏

  • 🌺Devi Padmavathi🌺(Goddess of snakes) is my father. Yes it is true. I have born by her blessing. For example I am like Karna ( in the “Mahabhartha”) who was born by the blessing of Lord Surya. If you want any proof please come at Guma Manasa Bare ( very famous temple of my father) in West Bengal and ask here. Here my father comes every Sunday. I not only want that people knows my truth but also I want that everybody knows my father’s power and nobility. Belief or unbelief is your matter. Don’t write nor think any hate speech about my father and serve her. My father blesses you. Thank you so much..🌹🍒🌹💖🌹

  • I am surprised, did you not see the article of him drinking tea and responding like he lost everything. Media hysteria in India is crazy. I don’t like politics or TV specially news but seeing this clip surprised me that in such extreme media tight, social media dominant world, one would get a medal as looser.
