First time grower here. There’s something very satisfying about doing that break n shake. You know something good is coming! I received 2 bags and a syringe of Liquid Culture 3 weeks ago. Just did the break n shake on one bag today. The other bag is growing slower, but very healthy looking. I think I got more spore material in the first bag just due to the way the spores were suspended in the syringe liquid. All good though.
Two things I noticed that are different than the instructions I got with two bags. One is rather than 2 to 3 weeks after it’s mixed up, the instructions say 3 to 6 weeks after mixing. And there are rubber bands to put around the bag an inch below the soil top line to keep the growth from creeping down the sides. Also to wash your hands thoroughly or wear gloves when handling the bag to mix it up to avoid an contamination. But thankyou for the article. It was helpful to get confidence that I was understanding this correctly.
Out of TEN magic bags started at the same time, only 2 are near the cutting open stage; none of the others have have mycelium growing. I used 5 different strains, so who’s to say where I went wrong, or if I had a bad bag. edit: 9 months later, and magic bag is working great!!! This is literally the most simple article and and the best and easiest one to understand. Other people literally post vids with the same title then make it somehow to be the hardest thing in the world. Then some people skip steps and I just don’t understand but thank you for the vid. I’ve grown ‘shrooms twice before. Once in the late 70’s using the McKenna brothers book and then once in the mid 80’s using the REVISED McKenna brothers book. This is waaaaaaayyyyyy better. I highly recommend MagicBag/Myyco. If you’re just gonna grow for yourself and a few friends, this is BY FAR your best option.
Just so you know guys, as great as these kits are for starting( and trust me they truly are GREAT) you can buy and make your own grow medium. Steralize everything, you can inaugulate your own cakes if you decide to chamber grow, or buy your own bags, fill, vaccume seall, inaculate then seal with tape. Every grow take the caps off, set them on a white piece of paper tl get your spore print and use those spores to fill a 5 to 10cc syringe with a U lock needle on the end, hold it upside down, and very slowly sqeeze the air out, suck up sterile saline solutikn, re cap and put in the fridge. Youd be suprised how many viable spores you can get from a single grow (enough to get 10 bags on the go after your first grow) … the main issue is keeping evergthing sterile. A pressure cooker, gloves and alcohol wipes are gonna be your best friend. Theres guides online, study them… but theese get VERY expensive for the dry yeild. I’ll catch hate for this comment but I’ve picked and grown mushrooms since I was 14. Order P.Cubanis as theure super easy.. I prefer liberty caps but they take up a huge auqarium as theyre super small. But I live in canada and one time of year I grow massive amounts outdoors on a perfect area I took care of and own. I throw extra spores out in the area even though they bloom there regardless. Theres a golf course close to where I live that every fall we’d go pick BAGS and BAGS of liberty caps every year. Like pounds and pounds upon drying. We’d save the spores and throw them places.
Question….. my bag is not completely white like yours but I have a couple mushrooms tops are starting to get brown mushroom head(just slightly as in the tip of the mushrooms). Should I start cutting the bag at the top or should I wait a few more days for the bag to turn completely white before I cut the top of the bag open?
I can’t get passed the cutting open the bag and clipping half of the top part. I’ve done this twice now with almost a fully white bag of mycelium, which is after mixing it with the soil. I’ll cut the bag and bring it into a well lit area, even mist it once or twice. The soil just seems to have gotten pretty hard and nothing happens. Any suggestions?
in the 80’s a mate and me got kicked out of a country pub….for non-stop giggling on magic mushrooms…. the more we tried to stop laughing>the more people got angry with us….the more we pissed ourselves laughing….just combinations of words like ‘cherry tree’ and ‘gattling juke-box activity’ were hysterical….
We mixed up the content of our bag two weeks ago and the whole thing appears to be filled with white mycelium now. Even if it’s just been two weeks since mixing the contents, if the mycelium has grown throughout the bag, can we cut it open or should we wait longer? The bag looks more full of mycelium than the one in the article does when you cut it open.
The directions say to break and mix the mycelium once half the bag is covered but the article shows you took that step far before. I have 2 bags that I waited for half coverage before mixing and things seem fine so far but I am wondering if it was necessary to wait those extra 2-4 weeks before mixing. Thanks, great article!
Hi, Have You got any idea how to move already started growbox with mushrooms, only 5 days old. It will be in the car wothout airconditioner and outside will be 30° in the shadow😲 My idea is put frozen plastic boxes in the big bag, cover it with towel and put on it bag with growbox. What do You think? Would be better keep it in 30° -35° without anything or My idea with ice? It should be 18°-20°. Greetings

Anyone know !? sporex sells around a lot of smoke shops but it says on package keep refrigerated and none of them store them that way, could this be why people are having hit or miss with live culture syringes? Just wondering because I have a big doubt that the wholesalers that carry these for store even store them in fridges.
I accidentally put 6 cc in my first bag and five days later my bag almost looks like the one in this article. Should I wait the remainder of the two weeks before I start mashing it into the soil? Alternatively, my second bag got 4 cc put into it and it is definitely growing at a slower rate should I adjust its time frame accordingly ?
THESE ARE NOT GOOD TO START OFF WITH AND LET ME EXPLAIN WHY. I bought a bag and a syringe from their suggested list and was excited to dive into growing mushrooms. About 3 weeks into growing i started to see a whole ton of metabolites forming at the bottom of the bag but decided to grow it out to see if it could be saved. Nothing couldve saved that bag. Sent them and email for replacement of both bag and syringe and when i got the bag i noticed a spec of green hiding in the grain. I knew it was trich but decided I should atleast try to grow it because i had a feeling they wouldnt be able to send me anything else because it would seem as if I was lying. And out of my high expectations it was trich. Im not saying these bags dont work but out of my experience id say not to buy these or atleast to not put 5 cc’s as suggested inside of the bag
Am i the only one that hates people saying “these suck, save your money and learn the craft” UMMMMMM….idk about all you guys, but i can afford 100$ bucks for a couple LC syringes and 3 All in one bags every couple months to grow me and a couple friends some shrooms to eat every once in a while. Once a month maybe. Yes. I dont care about 15 ounce yields and investing in all that shit. Most of us actually work, have careers, families, responsibilities….we dont just go down in our parent’s basement, turn on blacklights, hang up our poster’s, turn on lava lamps drink mnt dew play article games with strangers in our underwear and trip balls every single day. I cant be the only one that just wants to grow enough so myself and a couple friends, once, twice a month can eat a couple caps each and chill out.
What happens if I mixed my bag before the mycelium started to grow? First time grower and I jumped the gun because it was five weeks after inoculating the bags that they felt dense and compact. Only after mixing them did I realize how I had messed up. Well I thought it was money down the drain. But I was in the room they’re in the other day and one bag is almost completely white with mycelium. So do I remix the bag again ???
