What In Astrology Determines Conjunction?

A conjunction in astrology is a powerful aspect that occurs when two or more planets align in the same zodiac sign, resulting in the blending of their respective energies. This alignment allows for the individual influences of these planets to become more powerful. Astrologers analyze the aspects between planets in real time or in the coming weeks, which can explain global or cultural events.

Conjunctions are often found when two planets are very close together in the sky, usually in the same sign (e.g., the Sun and Venus both in Virgo). The planets’ energies merge, and intense energy follows when a transiting planet conjuncts a point in your Natal Chart. Conjunctions empower personality traits and represent a close bond and interpenetration of both energies. The planets involved continually influence each other.

In astrology, the concept of aspects, how points relate to one another by degree and angle in the chart wheel, is crucial in interpreting a horoscope. One key aspect of interpreting a horoscope is the conjunction, which happens when two or more planets appear close together in the same sign or house. This creates a powerful energy that influences personality, emotions, and life experiences.

Some astrologers argue that there can be from 0-10° between the planets for them to count as a conjunction. In most basic terms, planetary conjunction occurs when two or more planets occupy the same house. In summary, conjunctions in astrology are a powerful aspect that allows for the blending of energies between planets, creating a powerful impact on our lives.

What counts as a conjunction?

Conjunctions are parts of speech that connect words, phrases, clauses, or sentences. There are three types: coordinating, paired, and subordinating. “That” has different functions in English, leading to confusion in academic writing. It is important for embedding a dependent clause into an independent clause, often serving as the direct object of a reporting verb to introduce a paraphrase, summary, or quotation. The key color is yellow for subject, green for verb, and blue for object.

What creates a conjunction in astrology?

Astrologers suggest that a conjunction can occur with a distance of 0-10° between planets. Planets can be identified by their alignment, appearing overlapping or adjacent. While not everyone has a conjunction in their astrological chart, it’s important to note that each chart is unique. If a chart was created for you, you might see a conjunction abbreviated as “con”. The combination of planets in a conjunction can help emphasize key personality traits, making it easier to understand their impact on your chart.

What is the rarest conjunction in astrology?

Great conjunctions occur every 20 years when Jupiter overtakes Saturn in its orbit, making them the rarest of the conjunctions between naked-eye planets. The spacing between the planets varies, with most events being 0. 5 to 1. 3 degrees (30 to 78 arcminutes, or 1 to 2. 5 times the width of a full moon). Very close conjunctions occur less frequently, with separations of less than 10 arcminutes only happening four times since 1200, most recently in 2020.

Great conjunctions have attracted significant attention as omens in the past, with topics discussed by pre-scientific and transitional astronomer-astrologers, scholastic thinkers, and authors such as Dante, Lope de Vega, and Shakespeare. This interest in conjunctions can be traced back to translations of Arabic texts, particularly Albumasar’s book on conjunctions. In the past, great conjunctions were discussed by pre-scientific and transitional astronomer-astrologers, scholastic thinkers, and authors like Dante, Lope de Vega, and Shakespeare.

How to find conjunctions in astrology?

In astrology, two planets merge their energies in a conjunction, which can be a strong union or intense union if not easily blended. This energy flows softly and brings support, camaraderie, and opportunities. The first major aspect is a sextile, where the planets are roughly 60 degrees apart, forming a connection in highly compatible elements. Fire and air empower each other, while earth and water support each other. The key to using this energy is to take action and take full advantage of the opportunities it presents.

The first challenging aspect is the sharp clash of a square, where two planets are three zodiac signs apart, separated by roughly 90 degrees. This creates a tug of war between the energies that the planets rule, as all zodiac signs that are three apart fall within the same quality. Squares create conflicts, struggle, tension, and drama, but the only way to use this energy productively is to see how the friction is making you stronger and giving you an opportunity to adjust your progress on your journey.

In summary, astrology involves the merging of energies between two planets, the sextile, and the square. Understanding these aspects can help individuals navigate their astrological journey and find the most effective ways to utilize their energy.

What makes a conjunction false?

A conjunction statement is a logical connective that is true if and only if both of the combining statements are true. It is analogous to an AND gate utilized in topic-gate logic. The symbol “∧” is used to denote the conjunction, which is read as “and.” A truth table for the conjunction, P ∧ Q, can be constructed to ascertain the veracity of the statement in question, provided that both P and Q are true. In the event that this is not the case, the statement is therefore false.

How do you choose a conjunction?

Coordinating conjunctions are words that connect words, phrases, or clauses and demonstrate their relationship. They are represented by the mnemonic FANBOYS, such as For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, and So. These conjunctions act like traffic signals, helping readers navigate ideas. For example, F or indicates that the next idea caused the first idea. These conjunctions are useful for organizing ideas and enhancing the clarity of your writing.

What are the truth conditions for conjunctions?

Conjunctions and disjunctions are two types of truth tables that indicate whether two statements are true or false. Conjunctions are true when both conjuncts are true, while disjunctions are false when both disjuncts are false. The b column has the pattern TFTF, while the A column has the pattern TTFF. When considering “and” situations, it’s helpful to imagine a scenario where both parties agree to do both tasks. The truth values will be false except when both are done, in which case it will be true.

What is a weak conjunction in astrology?

A conjunction is a relationship between two or more planets, with the orb indicating the degree of closeness required for it to be effective. A weak conjunction may have a wide orb, indicating a lack of intensity in the planets’ influence. Different zodiac signs can weaken the impact of the conjunction, as the planets’ energies may not blend seamlessly. Combustion, when a planet is in close proximity to the Sun, can weaken the planet’s influence and the conjunction it forms with other planets.

What is the rule for conjunctions?

A comma is used after introductory clauses, phrases, or words that come before the main clause. Common introductory words include after, although, as, if since, when, and while. Conjunctions are words that join words, phrases, or clauses, with common examples being and, but, and or. There are three types of conjunctions: coordinating, subordinating, and correlative. They come in pairs and join grammatically equal elements. Rules for using commas with conjunctions include starting a sentence with a conjunction, and coordinating and subordinating conjunctions.

  • I rmb in one of your article you mentioned the age of the planets and if they are powerful or ‘does well’. does that come into play in this as well? say one planet is in their happy degree, and one is in their maybe old age, does that affect anything in terms of who’s influencing who and the quality of the conjunction. Great vid as always!

  • I just luv what you did I have the same chart as in the 4th house and both at 21:58 degree…same settings so now I would know My both MARS and JUPITER in the same room probably like you said roommates…Question is How do you apply the AK and the AmK here? dont tell me both of them have to sit in the same Car of say… Saturn cause its the second highest in the chart say @19:00 and travel?

  • A planet in it’s own sign will dominate the others. If mars is in it’s own sign he is going to be stronger than jupiter, even though Jupiter is a powerful planet. But as far as I’ve learned that is the rule.. But then there are so many rules it get’s confusing ! There is another rule that say: the planet that is highest above the others, is going to have the stongest influence. But then again I don’t know if it’s true…

  • What if the planets are not in the same house? But they are the same degrees? I’m trying to find out if I have any conjunctions to my nodal access. It’s at 13 degrees and so are many other signs and planets in my natal chart. But they aren’t all different houses, of course. So, if I say have mars at 13degrees in my 5th house and my north node in my 8th house, is that considered a conjunction?

  • Hair Patel sir…. If so did u notice in my chart which I have mentioned below, major of my planets will be in different houses like, Venus and sun in 12 th house, mercury which is in 11 th house is in 10 th, mars and ketu in 10 th house, moon in 6 th, Jupiter in 5 th, rahu in 4 th …. Entiirely all the planets’ s houses changes right,,, is it correct

  • I have Sun,Mercury,Venus, Saturn in 12th house at 10,12,17,29 degrees respectively. will saturn spoil the fruitfulness other three planets conjunction? is Saturn is too week. Can you please make a article on how will planets give affects on the basis of degrees. lets say an example now Saturn is in 29 degree in 12th house. is it too bad or is it good actually. if is it good, how good it is? Thank you.

  • I have sun at 28:41 in scorpio (retro), and sun in 29:28 scorpio.I also have this combination in navamsa, but in pisces. Is this a good budh-aditya yoga, since its a exact conjunction?Isn’t the sun supposed to destroy ( or burn) the good qualities of my mercury? And if it’s still a good yoga…,does this sun-mercury conjunction in navamsa strenghthen this conjunction, although being in a different sign (pisces)?

  • So u know what?? Do u mean to say that none of my plantets are in conjunction thought they are in same house?? That is, l am a scorpio Asc 20° & all my houses have 2 planets except moon 6° taurus. Degrees as follows Scorpio – venus 10°, saturn 25° Pisces – rahu 6°,jupiter 28° Virgo – ketu 6°,mars 25° Libra – mercury 3°,sun 20° So atlast no conjuction articles to be watch for me eh!!!

  • Grand water trine here, sun 4 degrees pisces, moon 8 degrees cancer, saturn 4 degrees scorpio. Thank god for that, it smoothens my natal saturn pluto conjunction a bit. my pluto 29 degrees of libra, conjunct saturn 4 degrees of scorpio. As a young child i unfortunately experienced sexual abuse, thats a shitty and badass saturn pluto conjunction. But it also forced me to learn al lot in life, in order to deal with the trauma’s that it caused.

  • I have my natal Sun conjunct Venus by 1 degree in my 8th house squaring my Pluto conjunct South Node by 3 degrees in my 5th house. Talk about a very difficult early life! But thank goodness after 36yrs, it’s gotten a lot manageable and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been because I continue to work on myself and with my chart :)!!

  • Awesome deep dive on these Astrological aspects Meredith 🙂. All of the planets in my natal chart stretch up to 107 degrees so I have a lot of conjunctions but not a single trine or opposition. Basically a bundle chart shape. Thank you for these articles as they are really good for beginners who are curious to learn the subject 😀.

  • My chart is an acquired taste 😏. Moon conjunct pluto in 5th, opposes mars in 11th😣, they are trine my ascendant, moon and pluto trine with Jupiter in 9th. Saturn is dignified by sign in Capricorn in 9th. My moon leads pluto in virgo 🙂. My poor moon has a lot of work to do. Anyway I’m trying to do what you did cause it’s really great 👍💗💖

  • My favorite article you’ve done yet, & I love seeing little Beau! 😍🐾 Oh boy, I’ve got some malefic conjunctions (Mars tightly conjunct Pluto in Scorpio; Uranus & Saturn tightly conjunct in Sagittarius) & some neutral / malefic conjunctions going on (Sun & Mercury in Sag; Sun & Saturn in Sag; Sun & Uranus in Sag); & ONE conjunction with a benefic Venus (Neptune & Venus in Cap). However, like you point out, the aspects make such an impact… Example, my Sun & Saturn conjunction are trine Jupiter in Aries, & Jupiter is the Lord of Sun & Saturn’s house (Sagittarius Sun), so while I have a really pragmatic & disciplined approach to an admittedly difficult life circumstance, I’ve been touched by a lot of blessings – ESPECIALLY my marriage. Jupiter in Aries is in the 7th House, so that makes sense – and go figure, I married someone from another part of the world! 😅 astrology really is so amazing, Thanks for all your work, Meredith! Very soon I’ll be buying one of your gorgeous natal charts packages!! 🌌🌜🌠

  • Thank you for the added perspectives on conjunctions in square to other planets/points. All my conjunctions (Saturn/south node in Gemini; Mercury Jupiter in Pisces; Venus Moon in Aquarius and Uranus/Ascendant in Sagittarius/Scorpio) are involved in significant T-squares with other major planets, (Sun, Pluto/Mars and Sun respectively). I also noticed 4 grand trines involving all those planets. I suppose I’d be quite a lucky, lazy, lady if it weren’t for those balancing t-square. It appears I would have a Grand Sextile (Star of David) if Eris counted among the planets.

  • Can’t wait to watch this! I have a Fire Trine Mars in Leo (16degrees) 5H Neptune in Sag (22degrees) 9H which are trine my Aries Ascendant (19degrees) I then have a stellium of planets in Libra which are conjunct to each other. Sun (6degrees) 6H Saturn (11degrees) 6H Jupiter (17degrees) 6H Moon (19degrees) 7H Pluto (23degrees) 7H followed by Mercury in Scorpio (1degree) 7H

  • Sun/ Pluto conjunct 0° Cazimi Pluto conjunct Mercury/Saturn Sun conjunct Mercury/Saturn Mars conjunct Venus 1° Jupiter conjunct Uranus 3° Mars/Venus trine Moon 0° Lots of squares also. Pluto/Sun square Asc. 1° I’d rather have conjunct with that one. My life has been one intense transformation after transformation. One long 40yr old crisis. Back to back. I feel tough, but tired.

  • Great article! Loved the nuanced considerations and tips here! I’m hesitant to even try asking anymore because my questions have not been answered in the almost four months I’ve been a superstar subscriber. But I’ll make one last go at it before downgrading: Does the formula with the leading planet and the planet being in a sign or house it’s incompatible with also work with trines and squares? Will one planet be more dominant or weigh more heavily in the equation if one planet is well-positioned and it’s trining or squaring a planet that is in an incompatible element, sign, declination, or fall? And what if one planet is in a compatible sign but an incompatible house and the other is in an incompatible sign but a compatible house? Which one would dominate in a situation like that?

  • Girl I just figured out why Scorpio’s like you. I have been perusal you with your je ne sais quoi and I even watch all the other signs just because I can’t get enough of your knowledge well it turns out I had this epiphany when I got stung by how beautiful you look in the beginning of the article I was like I thought I was here for a lecture but is this and make up tutorial or something

  • Wow that is something thatvi learned today fro you. I wondered why itvis easy for me to deal with my Cardinal t-square, and learned so much faster and gained the deeper wisdom or was teaching me. I have a grand trine in air element in the water houses. 4th house Aquarius Sun conjunct the 4th house cusp in the 4th and Aquarius venus in the 3rd conjunct the 4th house cusp. From the old school the Sun is trine to Uranus Gemini at 13° retrograde in 8th house and both trine the Libra stellum Neptune 8°, Moon at 16°, Jupiter at almost 27° conjunct the Scorpio ascendant from the 12th house. All my Air element in the all the water houses. The Libra planets in the 12th house forming a cardinal T-cross of Capricorn Mercury in the 3rd house opposition Cancer Mars conjunction Saturn in the 9th retrograde. The open missing leg is Aries in the 6th house. And Aquarius Sun and venus both opposition Leo Pluto retrograde in the 10th.

  • I have my Saturn conjunct Mars in the 5th house in Scorpio (Pluto also in the 5th house) t-squaring my moon in 9th and my Venus in the 11th. Yeah, I have had a lot to work on. It’s hard to say what’s harder to work on, that t-square or the quincunx to my Sun/Chiron by Pluto and Neptune. Looking forward to what you have to say on quincunx’s Meridith 🙂

  • I have Uranus in Aquarius 1st house conjunct within 1 degree my ascendant, Mercury is exact to my ascendant, Neptune is in Capricorn 12th house conjunct ascendant 1 degree ascendant. So Neptune is at home in 12th and Uranus is in Aquarius. So both at home all 3 conjunct extremely close to each other and ascendant 😅 not squaring any other planets though. But they are sextile to Saturn and Pluto! All of other planets are conjunct as well 😅

  • My ex had his Venus trine my ASC, his Mars trine my MC and he neigh destroyed me 🙈 we had many other beautiful trines but some hard squares: Pluto-Saturn, Jupiter-Pluto, Saturn-Saturn and his MC on my Persephone 😢 he was very very abusive. I was a top bikini fitness athlete but he took everything from me. Made me homeless. I’m out of a job now too.

  • Love this article 😁 Meredith can you please tell me something (anything) to make me feel better about my Saturn conjunct Jupiter and Moon in the 10th house? I feel as if Saturn is a bit of a bully in my chart. (Saturn 06.57 deg. Libra, Jupiter 06.13 deg. Libra, and Moon 28.48 deg. Virgo) Saturn is also my chart ruler as my rising sign is Cap. It is squaring my ascendant so that could be my release valve? I have this Saturn / Jupiter / Moon mash-up opposing my Sun, Mars and Venus. I’m just wondering what generally happens in a persons life if their Jupiter is somewhat overpowered by Saturn? The one thing I can see though is Saturn is trine to (a very unstable) Uranus; 0.00 deg. Sag in 12th house Thanks so much! 😘😘

  • 29:00, 3rd house sign Sag ruler Jupiter but in Cap sign (Placidus) in same 3rd house conjunct Neptune, estranged from siblings and relatives. Because they bullied me growing up. My mom joined in with her siblings to bully me so I was disowned and left the family. I thought Jupiter was supposed to be good in the same house it ruled (not natural ruling house but still…) is conjunct Neptune, I hope it was what you say neutral but in my case it was a huge malefic.

  • I suppose I’m a walking disaster then with all the problems and hard stuff I have: – Sun/Pluto in a 1° tight conjunction plus Jupiter (4° from Pluto) and Uranus (6° from Sun) in 7H Virgo (intercepted) – Venus/Mercury in tight 2° conjunction in 8H Libra in opposition to Asc/Desc (Cap/Can) line and Moon in Cancer 6H – Sun/Pluto in quincunx to Saturn 2H Aries – Saturn apex in a Yod (other base being Neptune Scorpio 9H) Heaven help me 😂

  • My question is since my Aquarius Venus is 0° 55 ‘ conjunct is Sun 3° 05 Aquarius, is it too close that the effect of Venus energy is not as strongly felt. It rules my 7th house and 12th house. Since the dispositor of the libra stellum in the 12th. It meant i had to work hard with it my whole life, say your expetience will teach you unconditional love at the end of the experience.

  • As far as conjunctions go, I’m not sure if the Vertex (27°52’ in virgo in my VIIth house) can form an aspect to Vesta (27°40’ scorpio in my VIIIth house), may have a question around this, as Vesta leads and is conjunct to my Pluto at 22°33’, which leads my Sun at 14°47’, both in scorpio in my VIIIth house.

  • I have such a burning question and its probably dumb but maybe someone can help me. Are conjunctions only in the same house and within a 10 degree orb? The reason Im asking is I have so many planets in my chart that are 17° but not the same sign. My nodes, midheaven, Jupiter, and Part of Fortune are all 17° just different signs. And my moon and mars are the same degree 23° but in different houses, 5th and 8th but both houses are ruled by Jupiter (5th Sag 8th Pisces). And my 17° Jupiter is in my 8th house Pisces haha so is there anything to having planets at the same degree different house or is there nothing to that only if planets share the same house?
