This is the type of ride that article will never do justice, you really have to experience it for yourself to “get” it, the ride vehicle really does make the ride. In the front row especially, the launch is pure joy. Plunging into darkness after the first brake run, the lights and mirrors and screens, the turns that make you feel like you might fall out of the bike, the MUSIC. All of it adds up to a ride that feels like it’s longer than 90 seconds and it’s a must do at Magic Kingdom. It’s not the next Velocicoaster, but it’s well themed, thrilling fun for pretty much the whole family. I’d consider it one of the best rides at WDW.
Rode it yesterday with the family. The launch is thrilling and the speed feels more intense since you’re leaning forward. The rest of the ride is super smooth and entertaining but not scary. I think this is a great alternative for those not willing to ride space mountain. It’s a very family-friendly coaster.
I can’t tell – are there any significant drops? I don’t mind going upside down but am terrified of straight drops (think splash mountain and tower of terror which I no longer ride)…are there any drops like that? A lot of people are saying this coaster is overrated, which is true in some aspects (mainly how short it is), however, visually with its awesome sound and lighting effects and intensity wise with the incredible first launch, it’s definitely the kind of ride that magic kingdom needed: a fresh breath of air to provide more family friendly thrills to the park. I only wish they had built more track, or maybe even had a dueling aspect to it. After all, the concept is that you’re racing other color teams. Imagine if this had a dueling dragons style red and blue track to choose from with close passes throughout the indoor section?
In late August, I was on vacation in Disney World with my sister, and I tried out this ride! I really love this ride! It’s full of stunning sights and digitizing sound, and it makes you think of what it’s like to be in a whole new world! The only downside to this ride is that it’s over before you know it. I wish it were as long as the Guardians of the Galaxy ride. But even though it’s kinda short, I still believe it’s worth a ride or ten!
It’s an interesting ride, but I feel like there’s too many brake runs. The one right as you reenter the show building is especially disappointing because it kills all the momentum from the incredible launch. It is fun, and is definitely worth a wait, but I think it’s just short of being a classic ride.
Rode it 1st time last night. Theming was out of this world. Top notch, felt like I was walking on a different planet. The coaster after the 1st launch was just good for me atleast. Was expecting more from it. Maybe my opinion is off due to the day prior going on Velocicoaster and the Hagrids motorbike for the 1st time.
If you are scared about this ride as I was let me tell you somethings, first, yes the launch is strong but you don’t really feel the stomach dropping thing, second it is amazing and you will be happy a after you ride. And it’s not too intense in the pitch dark area. For older people it can be a little stronger but for me it was like space mountain but with a launch, and i repeat it, nothing too intense for someone that is scared of rollercoasters like me. Also this ride doesn’t have major drops it’s just like the slinky dog dash.
Rode this today at WDW, and found the experience overall to be disappointing and filled with noise fatigue. For starters, the lineup is LOUD. Almost a dizzying level of noise pollution combined with an extremely repetitive “epic” soundtrack that doesn’t vary. The high point of the ride is the “reveal” of the launch area when the “digitize” effect happens part way through the lineup. It is a great WOW moment, as a reward for sticking though the noise polluted concrete hell before this point. Once making my way into the ride vehicle, it has a fairly awkward fitment to get the head forward seating to happen, which I didn’t mind personally, but saw plenty of people say “nope” after trying the test cycle in the cue for fitment. Launch is moderate, like perhaps a 5 ish second 0-60. Certainly not staggering or on par with many other modern LIM launch coasters. Aerosmith Rock ‘n Roller coaster launches around twice as hard by my estimation. From there, it’s one big sweeping outdoor corner followed by some indoor corners, which are VERY brake-checked before each one. Like right down to a crawl. It really kills the flow, and made cornering weak and tentative, but smooth. Ride time is SHORT. Like 1 minute. Honestly, Hagrids motorbike adventure is easily 10x more fun than this ride, with a gorgeous lineup, longer ride time, and WAY better flow, fast corners and overall sensation of speed and fun.
I think the article accurately captures this underwhelming ride. Impressive lighting/sound setup in the loading lineup area. Intense launch. But the ride is mostly dark with only sparse lighted scenes that flash by. As you’re hunched over the cycle it’s difficult to get a good look. The ride is very, very short; disappointing after waiting one hour even with a virtual queue position. (The Lightning pass looks to be the way to go.) I much prefer Guardians of the Galaxy at EPCOT.
The building at night is beautiful. The Ride, however, is getting a lot of attention. Negative attention. The ride vehicles are very restrictive; it’s the first Ride I’ve ever seen in a Disney park where people had to be turned away because they just don’t fit. It’s something you see at Universal, or Seaworld–it’s not something you should see at Disney.
