The magic mechanic in Valheim is centered around the use of magical weapons, which are not to be confused with “elemental” weapons that cause elemental damage. The new Mistlands update in Valheim allows players to use magic for the first time, which is only available by finding various items. To unlock and use magic in Valheim’s Mistlands biome, players must craft an Eitr Refinery and a Galdr Table, and eat the Eitr.
Valheim Eitr is a magical ability that allows players to craft arcana-infused weapons and inflict magical stat damage. However, it is not as easy as picking up a magic wand, as there are no magic wands in Valheim. Players can also upgrade their magic items to level up.
There are currently two types of magic: Elemental magic and Blood magic. Each type has its own associated skill, which determines the damage and cost of casting that type of magic.
In Norse myth, humans have very little talent for sorcery beyond runes andseidr. The new Mistlands update introduces a new magical system, allowing players to unlock powerful abilities and weapons. Magic is currently a gimmick, but as the game progresses, it will be filled out or refined.
In summary, the new Mistlands update in Valheim allows players to unleash magical powers, create new weapons, armor, and spells, and explore the world of magic. While there are no additional features beyond the quest to defeat bosses, the new magical system offers a unique and exciting experience for players.

Activating a power locks the player into an animation for a few seconds, preventing them from moving or performing any action except equipping or unequipping tools. I love Valheim so much, lol. I’m Faroese, a direct descendant of Viking settlers, and many things in the game are culturally or linguistically familiar to me. For example, “eitr” modern Faroese spelling is “eitur” means poison or venom. Galdr, modern spelling “galdur” just means magic in Faroese too. A man who wields magic is a “galdramaður.”
Is it only me that feels like food is going to become super unbalanced ? I was checking the slots for food, there are still only 3. And the new recipes with Eitr don’t seem to give you a lot of health/stamina… So how do you survive out there with so little food/stamina .. plus the “blood magic” attack types that takes up some of your health. Everything else seems great, but that looks a bit of a worry..
Not a fan of the magic and casting. It seems like the devs are going towards a RPG with the magic and casting spells like so many other games. Valheim was different and such a nice change from all that, now… not so much. Hopefully the magic won’t take over the majority of the gameplay from here on. It does seem like it’s limited with use and only really benefits usage in the Mistlands, which I’m happy about, but then others will not be. I’m not saying that it can’t and won’t be used in other biomes, but it is only needed in one. A Viking game now slanted towards casting spells. Need that happy balance to please most people I guess, but again not a fan.
Awesome update, but I’m kinda disappointed about a few things. Of course, if I got it right. Why not assign spell casting to an alternative attack? It would be much more fun if the player could get the opportunity to use the staff as a melee weapon too. To the hell blocking, you may assign a second one spell to the staff. LMB for melee, RMB for range, and for sweet extra badabum on MMB, for example. Congratulations, you’re done – playable mage is ready. And I just wanted to play a goddamn shaman. Shoot poisonous clouds in all directions and treat teammates, this kind of stuff. Okay, necromancy and elements, but why was I given some stupid bubble when there was a shaman-mob with cool abilities in the game from the first day. Just give it to the players. In fact, I respect IGS for the work done, but also I would like to believe that all this will be implemented in the future, because these are obvious things. Otherwise, the mechanics are introduced into the game at least, and maybe the modders will fix these, but I would like an official release.
