How are rugs so expensive?

High-quality rugs are expensive due to their natural materials, such as wool and silk, which are strong and durable. Silk is the most expensive due to the time and effort required to extract and process it into a workable material. Wool rugs are pricier due to their durability, elasticity, and resistance to stains and soil. However, it is crucial to avoid over-processing the wool used in your rug, as stripping or bleaching can result in white wool and remove the lanolin that makes wool stain-resistant. Tufenkian produces every rug using the finest materials available, including wool from the Himalayas or Caucasus Mountains, delicate silk, Tufenkian bamboo silk, hemp, angora, and linen.

Do you pay for carpet before installation?

It is customary for reputable carpet dealers to request an initial payment of 50% of the total cost, which is to be paid upfront for the carpet, pad, and installation. The remaining balance is to be paid upon completion of the installation and upon the customer’s satisfaction with the work. Nevertheless, there is no known carpet retailer in Britain that operates on this basis, and it is unclear if any such retailer operates in Britain.

  • Every business is about a niche, it means that if you’re complaining about a product price it means you’re not in the good niche as a buyer because you’re are either broke, stingy or you don’t know how to appreciate the value of handmade products. Each artist has a way to make a value to his product. Some Zara clothes are made in Turkey while some Gucci are also made in the same factory in Turkey what makes you buy Zara and not Gucci or what makes you buy Gucci and not Zara? As a graphic designer in Africa l have met people selling a simple logo for more than 10000$ while others sell theirs for 30$ it’s up to the value an artist believes his work worth and what a buyer believes he can offer to purchase that. So if you are complaining that her rugs are too expensive, you have nothing to do here go and watch Chinese artists create the art you value as what you can afford.

  • I recently sold my first rug. I calculated everything in such a way that i would make 50€ profit (yeah the rest of the price went into materials). I messed up with one order and in the end it was more like a 50€ loss. Feels really bad, so if you take comissions you better take as much money as you can.

  • Not bad because if someone gave me $100 per hour to make one I still couldn’t do it at the moment because there is a learning curve also the start up cost is very expensive and if you consider how every rug is hand made and unique then you realize that every one is an Art piece and I believe parting with her art is the part where the true value comes in because for all we know she might not want to make them anymore tomorrow and that means that at any moment the rugs my become limited

  • HUH?!?!? I would first of all say that selling hand crafted items is rarely going to get you making a high hourly rate, if you are expecting to sell these items to people of moderate means. People who are willing to pay your rate of $50/hour for 18 hours are very unlikely to be buying a tufted rug. Of course, there is a whole generation of people that think they are worth $20+/hour to say, “Would you like fries with that?” Do you use the whole container of glue for each rug? Do you use a whole container of gorilla glue for each rug? I don’t know I am not there but 25 yards of yarn seems like a lot, but like I said I don’t know. So then you have all the equipment (tufting gun, not one but two carving tools, scissors, frame, etc.). Do you throw those away when you are done making one rug and then buy all new? To use your “”accounting” method, after spending about $8,000,000,000 to build a car factory, each car would have to cost more than that. But no it does not work like that because you reuse those items over and over again. You don’t close down the factory after building one car and then go build a new one for the next car.
