How To Use Macros To Derank Spells?

The user is searching for a simple healing macro that can downrank spells to save mana. They are trying to cast the highest rank Lesser Heal when pressing 3, and the lowest rank Lesser Heal when pressing shift. They have been playing on their hunter alt recently and have recently acquired Improved Mend Pet.

The user has been unable to get a spell down-ranking macro to work since the Classic release. They have tested various variations of the macro, but they have not found one that works. They have also been reading about downranking spells when healing on WoWhead and wondering if it can be done through healing addons.

Some macros use mouseover macros for all healing spells, but in classic, how do you set up a macro for lower rank spells? The user is looking for a macro that allows them to use spells/abilities of the highest rank if mana is sufficient, but deranks them lower if not.

The user has tried using shift+clicking a spell in the spell book when the macro pane is open, which inserts the spell along with rank if applicable. They are also looking for a macro that will de-rank buffs if cast on a low-level player (like Arcane Intellect).

The macro does not need spaces anywhere other than after the initial command in each line of a macro and in the names of spells consisting of multiple words.

  • Many people perusal the article did not understand that here Mcbaze had bad micro and got out-micro by a master player, but still crushed him with macro. micro is about spacing, dodging spells, and winning trades. macro is about chosing when to trade, when to recall, when to ward and where to position in lane. Here Mcbaze got in range of a viktor Q for no reason, canceled and auto, leveled his W while it was no use in his lvl 2 trade and got chunked hard. Yet he won of knowing when to recall while viktor trolled his recall and his tp, he played around map and viktor tp being down, trading aggressively for a purpose. And all these macro decisions led to him getting free kills without any need of skill at fighting. He won off ahead decision making against opponents with better fighting skills.

  • Had “bad mechanics” a few times due to a mistake but then had perfect mechanics combined with a mistake by viktor. Normal players can’t really replicate this easily and seemed like more of a guide on micro lol. Not to mention most people would’ve lost flash and got nothing out of that wukong gank. Not a bad article but title seems a bit misleading

  • Any time someone talks about what is good to do with the wave, I feel like I could be being straight up lied to and I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. It feels so unintuitive. I can understand their justification on a surface level, especially when paired with article results, but I never “get it” on a fundamental level that lets me apply it in game.

  • As a jungler this happens literally every game where a player messed up his lane like the viktor here and as you say being ungankable. They then spam ping the jungler because they think you are overextended when in reality it is impossible to kill you. Laners just don’t understand this even in Dia and then its jungle diff ofc.

  • what I love about macro rather than micro is that when you know macro, you know what micro concepts are important and how important are them. maybe you think dodging skills is important (and it is), but sometimes they are irrelevant (if you are going to reset) and sometimes they are crucial (1v1 situation, and you can even pay a price like using flash if they are that important).

  • If you’re playing at top lane, it’s not at all to be honest. Just perma push it until you have 35 deaths and explode their nexus. Main Sion or something, lose lane, get CS, fuck turrets. That’s my take on how to win. Also, if you think like you’ll be dying at all times and not getting any turrets since you’ll be poor = less items = weaker = easy target, that’s understandable but you forget about the 1 main feature in the game: CS and playing golds. One time I Got ganked 5 times and roamed 2 times in just a few minutes, still managed to out level and out gold my enemy by basically demolishing the turret while my enemy killing me. Yes, it’s not that easy to do with stuff that is not Sion, but you wanted META picks? Here you go! Go play sion or something with a good jungle main duo and take the enemy nexus while your duo is taking the dragon. If you’re still not convinced and say this is useles af, here is the perfect guide: Step 1: Pick Sion, ban Darius or Mordekaiser, get your runes done with Flash/TP or Exhaust/TP(since you’ll not need flash that much). Step 2: Level up W and get the 500 gold potion thing. If the enemy jungler starts bot jungle, go get their buff(especially if it’s red buff) and die asap after taking it. Teleport to the lane. Step 3: If you didn’t do that, use your W to grab 3 melee minions and damage enemy if possible. Then walk up to get the caster minions. Based on your rank and your opponent’s mental state + character, they will be hitting you. If they’re hitting you, first drink your potion, and then hit them with your auto.

  • As clickbait as it sounds, only decent mechanics are needed until GM and the rest is 80% just macro and game knowledge stuff. Obviously great mechanics will help you climb faster, but those are learned from a lot of experience but macro can be learned fairly quickly through careful study. Many games are won and lost by good or bad applications of game knowledge.

  • In Plat elo all this might be true but in silver all that really matters are mechanics and it’s easy to see why. A plat+ player in Silver will just destroy everyone by outplaying them and easily snowball. At the same time the farming skills of regular silver players is so weak that it geniuenly doesn’t matter if you get a wave more or less. It all gets coinfliped the next second anyways when the team does some random macro calls that are unpredictable to see because they make no sense and death timers dictate much more how much cs and xp one gets. So it’s really just all about being able to mechanically outplay ur opponents while as a player with silver mechanics good macro can’t win you much as you can’t get anything from it
