Dubs, an Alaskan Malamute from Snohomish, Washington, is the 14th official live mascot of the University of Washington. Born on January 4, 2018, he was adopted into a family of UW alumni and now resides in Sammamish, Washington. Dubs I, the 13th live mascot, was introduced in February 2009 and has since led the football team onto the field during home games. A costume was commissioned to wear by a rotating trio of university students at games where the distinctive live animal Huskies mascot couldn’t.
Dubs II, also known as “Dubs”, was discovered in the basement of a Laurelhurst rooming house before the 1929 UW-Chicago game and was taken by Husky rooters. The University of Washington’s live mascot has become a huge part of all athletics events, with Harry the Husky being one of two used by the university. They stayed at a downtown Los Angeles hotel room with Dubs and his family and attended numerous UW events.
Dubs is a hardworking member of the University of Washington, working with students and faculty alike. The tradition of appointing a live dog to the position was started after establishing Huskies as the official mascot in 1922. The Washington Huskies are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent the University of Washington, located in Seattle. Dubs is a hardworking member of the University of Washington, and like many faculty and staff, he works with UW students.
