What are the negative effects of apple cider vinegar?
Apple cider vinegar can cause various side effects, including skin burns, irritation, digestive issues, tooth damage, and potassium levels. Consuming large quantities of undiluted vinegar can also cause digestive issues. Severe side effects should be sought medical attention, especially for those with certain health conditions. It is recommended to consult a doctor before using apple cider vinegar for medicinal purposes.
What happens when you eat apple cider vinegar everyday?
Apple cider vinegar is generally regarded as safe when consumed in moderation. However, it should be noted that excessive consumption may lead to tooth enamel erosion or gastric distress. It has been demonstrated to assist in the management of blood sugar levels, the alleviation of symptoms associated with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and the promotion of weight loss. The typical dose is 1-2 tablespoons of the solution, which should be mixed with water and consumed either before or after meals.
What does apple cider vinegar do to the kidneys?
A 2014 animal study found that ACV protects against kidney oxidative injury, increases antioxidant enzymes, and lowers cholesterol levels, potentially preventing kidney stones. Overweight individuals are more likely to have higher cholesterol. ACV can be consumed by those with kidney stones or as a preventive measure, but it should be diluted to avoid harm to tooth enamel and throat burns. Rinse mouth thoroughly after consumption.
What should you never do while taking apple cider vinegar?
Apple cider vinegar (ACV) can cause an unpleasant reaction in the nose or eyes, so it’s best not to inhale it strongly. To avoid this, consume ACV diluted, mixing 1-3 teaspoons in 100 ml of water before consumption. Brushing teeth right after ACV consumption can wear away tooth enamel and lead to cavities and decay. Start by consuming small doses, especially if you’re new to ACV, to understand your body’s reaction. If you experience an upset stomach or burning sensation, reduce the amount.
Consuming ACV before bedtime can be harmful to the esophagus, so it’s best to sit upright for at least 30 minutes to avoid acid reflux and irritation. It’s also important to avoid consuming ACV right before bedtime to avoid potential harm to the esophagus.
How long does apple cider vinegar take to reduce belly fat?
A study involving 175 participants found that taking 1 or 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar for 12 weeks led to a slight decrease in weight, belly fat, and blood fat levels. However, the study only included people with obesity and no other health conditions, making it unlikely to apply to different groups. Additionally, the results were only 12 weeks long, so the long-term implications are uncertain. After stopping apple cider vinegar, participants regained most lost weight and belly fat, and their blood fats returned to their original levels.
What medications should not be taken with apple cider vinegar?
Apple cider vinegar may interact with certain medications, such as diabetes medication, digoxin (Lanoxin), and certain diuretic drugs. It is made by combining apples with yeast, which converts sugar into alcohol and bacteria, forming acetic acid. This weak acid, which makes up 5-6 of apple cider vinegar, can have dangerously low blood sugar or potassium levels when consumed with insulin or insulin-stimulating medications.
Can apple cider vinegar clean out your liver?
Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) is a natural remedy for healing the fatty liver, aiding in detoxification and weight loss. Regular intake of ACV promotes cholesterol reduction, inflammation, and overall liver health. To use, add 1 tablespoon of ACV to warm water and consume on an empty stomach for at least two months. Lemon, rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, also has hepatoprotective properties that help reduce lipid profile levels and prevent free radical damage to liver cells. Both ACV and lemon can significantly improve liver health.

It contains probiotics, which contribute to a healthy gut microbiome and support digestion and nutrient absorption. However, scientific studies on these effects are limited. Dr. Ekberg, saying thank you just doesn’t cut it for how I appreciate this information. I have an aversion to ACV and hearing that other vinegars have benefits made my day. Thank you for showing the numbers and proof of the value of certain foods as well. ACV is the only vinegar that I cannot stand, I love all the others. Mentioning mustard, sauerkraut, vinegar and oil salad dressing, and even pickles made me so very happy. Much appreciation and admiration to you! Thank you, Cynthia Rucker 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The addiction I believe to these Gummies is truely the Sugar, be it an alternate form of sugar or not. I think the “Healthy” idea that’s being sold, is just something that makes people feel better about eating them lol. I think about lollies here & there, even dream about them sometimes, but I don’t eat them, the short term enjoyment is only short term and that’s how the cycle starts. Best to just avoid sugar all together.
Curing ignorance one article at a time. 😆 / 💖🙏💖 Thanks Again, Doc. (I love your “Only eat One-Ingredient foods” advice. It certainly applies to gummy bears.) PS; I’m doing your ’30 day no (sweet)’ challenge (Not even using stevia in my tea). Wow! OMAD is much more doable now without my sweet-cravings being triggered. 💪💖
I agree that the bad taste of ACV is best masked by combining it with Extra Virgin Olive Oil and using it as a Salad Dressing. I sprinkle a layer of Nutritional Yeast Flakes on top of the Salad, then add ACV and EVOO to it. The Nutritional Yeast absorbs them and keeps the vinegar and oil from pooling at the bottom of the Salad. It is also a great source of B-Complex Vitamins. 👍
Great analysis, Dr. Ekberg! (Sticking to the norm on this website 😀). Such a coincidence, before perusal this article my wife asked me about a bottle of ACV+KETO gummies that a friend handed over, she told her the product is great for weight lost because is expensive and it has great reviews! When I saw the nutrition fact I told my wife this is almost “pure sugar” as the additional benefits from other nutrients shows 0% of daily requirements. My recommendation to my wife was: If you want to use the product and get benefits, BEFORE TAKING THE GUMMY ROLL IT OVER THE SIDEWALK AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD, THEN WEIGHT LOSS WILL COME! LOL!! 😎 Now we know more about the Acetic Acid benefits, and have good idea of real food alternatives 🤓 Thank you!
I’ve been taking these gummies for a month or so and have lost at least 7-8 pounds. I have been working hard at it but they do work! The one’s I have are 1000mg ACV and I only take them once a day. But I am convinced after looking more into it that I can get the same or better effect from real ACV but right now since I already paid the money and the weight is coming off I’m going to finish the bottle before switching to straight ACV. I can certainly do without the sugar and the high price.
Great article. So far, I’m down 28 pounds of as today following your advice. My general rule- anything to “help” out with weight loss never works and is always loaded with sugar/crapola- I stay away from those keto bars and just stick with natural food. I do love ACV but I choose the bottle and go about it that way. I quit sugar 2 years ago and have never felt better. Anyways, great website. I’m sure you hear this a lot, but your website definitely changed my life for the better. Thank you.
Yes this is so true, I’ve drank the equivalent to the study 2 TBS and actually noticed significant weight loss. With the gummies in comparison it was absolutely nothing. I found a recipe that can make it tolerable to consume, chamomile tea with 2 TBS of ACV, and 1 TBS of fresh squeezed lemon juice. I drank this every other day with a meal to aid digestion as well, and lost a noticeable amount of weight, and i also noticed I had more energy and it was so much easier to wake up in the morning.
I use ACV in smoothies (great!), I put some in mineral water with lemon (great!), and I make all my dressings with it and salsa. I think once your body recognizes, that ACV is a good thing, you start loving it. If I forget to put it in my smoothie there’s something missing… Tip: Just dilute it with enough water if you drink it plainly – it´s not bad at all.
Dr. Sten thanks for sharing this awsome information. Kindly make a article on fibroids in women . I have cured now but before this desiese it was difficult for me to sleep but even i have been recoverd but still have sleep issue, my periods are now normal and on fix date but they are in now in heavy and thick lumps. . Kindly guide all the female regarding that and also try to explain is there any connection between sleeping issue with such kind of disease?
I make an iced green tea with raw apple cider vinegar and lemon juice….I also did something before by adding the vinegar to my bottled waters with unfiltered honey and cayenne pepper and drank an 8 oz bottle of that twice a day for three weeks…it detoxifies your system and I couldn’t believe that after I did that I bought some fresh fruit, and even though I washed it before I could still taste the chemicals heavily on it…Until I had done this, I had never tasted the chemicals like that before
I have ACV with lemon water and monk fruit or stevia sweetner in the morning. I also like to mix my ACV with Extra Virgin Olive oil and Italian spices for salads. One of the lessons from the good Dr. in previous articles. I suggest perusal them all. They have a lot of info so I’ve watched several repeatedly.
I was just in Walmart today, the their shelf with gummy vitamins was larger than the traditional pills I am so used to. Never even considered the gummies, as Dr Ekberg says, ‘basically candy’. I have not eaten sugar in over two years, including NO fruit, not even a single berry. Not about to blow it with gummies.
In india, we make our own vinegar from different veggies nd let me tell you it is way more Superior to ACV ( taste and smell) and we have it 1-2 tbsp every now and then with our lentils and curry .we drink ginger in our tea twice daily with many other herbs . Didnt knew we are way ahead of science in our eating habits.😍 People buying stuff just because of pure marketing .
Hi, I have malabsorption and hypoglycemia that has to be a gastro reason for it. I have been diagnosed with lactose intolerance. But I still can’t gain weight. I am 32 years old and 5’3, 103 lbs. I used to have 120lbs. I have tried probiotics with prebiotics but gave me insomnia, racing thoughts, and anxiety. It is so strange. What can I do? Any thoughts? Thank you!
Hello Doctor! I am following intermittent fasting for more than three months and lost nearly about 12kgs but now a days I am not feeling hungry. I only have one meal a day and after that I am feeling full for the entire day. Could you please let me know whether this is a sign of digestion issues or any serious… Moreover, now my weight is also not reducing even in omad. Being stagnate at 90kgs. I am 27 years old will this affect my body by not getting enough nutrition. Please help me 🙏
Hi dr sten. I think you’re bashing carbs too much, to the point you’re even bashing the gummies. The body works best when there’s moderation. A low carb high fat diet isn’t helpful for many athletes, it’s actually detrimental. Cyclists for example have much worse performance when their body is used to an ultra low carb keto diet. Their performance simply stinks. I’m a fan of your website but I always think that things must always be done in moderation. Fasting is great for fat loss. Same with intermittent fasting. Ultra low carb diets or the so called keto diet aren’t necessary, there is nothing wrong with having a cup or two of brown rice, whole grains and fruits. If you’re going to avoid the carbs to an extreme extent; even going as far as labelling the fruit section of the grocery store as evil, that will just hamper you. It’s true that being in ketosis has tons of benefits, fasting has tons of benefits, but going ultra low carb…thats really not clear in my opinion. I do agree with you that it’s important to cut down on carbs because as society the amount of processed and refined carbs in our food has gotten to a ridiculous level.
6:30 but isn’t extract a more concentrated form of what is beneficial in ginger? Something like standarization, something is standarised for 5% so in 1000 mg it has 50mg of actual helpful i gradient, but when it is extract it has 50%, so you need only 100mg of the extract from the thing. But personally I still prefer drinking ACV than using some weird form of it
I had a feeling these “gummies” were worthless! I take two tablespoons diluted with about 3 ounces of water and chug it down. The taste isn’t that bad (once you get used to it). Just remember to brush your teeth after as ACV is pretty tough on the enamel of your teeth. Finally a question for Dr. Ekberg… Is it better to take it in the morning or before bedtime? Or, does it matter. Thank you for all your articles!
Well, it’s not shocking anymore that this would be the result of the unscrupulous food manufacturers that know how to “bend” the facts so they can jump on a trendy bandwagon and come out with a “me too” product. I expected as such and I just tuned into this article to see just how badly they lied and deceived people… TBH… It’s too predictable and I’m getting tired of seeing the same old story play out… Just once I’d like to be pleasantly surprised.
Wow I was really hoping the apple cider gummy bears were going to be a plus and a thumbs up but I’m glad to know no deal oh well gummy bears always had a fascination for me until I finally gave up sugar for the most part I do have honey but at I gave up the gummy bears for the most part thank you for the info I won’t fall prey to a unattractive idea that really is not sound thanks so much 🌈🙏💌🌈🤩
Watch several of your articles every day! Best info ever! Need extra knowledge on root cause of high blood pressure and how to reverse it. Friend in ICU from brain stem aneurism they said caused by HBP. Under 45 YOM! Can this be? He’s beginning to respond and need to know how we can help nutritionally when he comes home.
That’s hilarious, but not really! At least every other day I get something telling me that it is my “last” chance to get a free bottle of those Gummy Bears. I am waiting for it to be my last, last, last, last, last, last, last, last, last, last, last, last chance, so I won’t be bothered by them anymore. I’m not going to hold my breath though.🥶🥶🥶
Great article. These companies are taking people for mugs. Personally I really like the taste of ACV. Just 30 ml in a glass of water in the morning. Find it’s a refreshing start to the day. Not sure if it is actually doing me any good, but do find it kills the appetite so I don’t get hungry for most of the day.
What about capsules of dehydrated ACV? That’s what I use because I can’t stand the taste of ACV and they barely taste anything if you take them with a glass of water or kombucha. They don’t contain sugars or any other added ingredients, it’s literally just ACV that was dried up and put into a powder.
You did the math so we didn’t have to, you lost me with mathematics but 200 years HAHAHAHAHAHAHA :face-blue-smiling:. the audacity of those ACV + Keto cough cough NTX KETO + ACV GUMMIES, KetoFitastic ACV Keto Gummies by Shark Tank Team cough cough :face-orange-raised-eyebrow: THANK YOU for this article:face-red-heart-shape:
Second Comment I make my own pickles by cutting fresh-picked cucumber spears, immersing them in white vinegar 5% (with pickling spices added) BUT THEN — I pull a hard vacuum on the jar twice in a row, with a 5-minute Interval between pumping. This causes ALL the air spaces in the spears to be replaced with the brine solution by infusion, increasing the brine concentration, meaning MORE acetic acid inside the pickle (plus, it takes me only 10 minutes to create a jar of shelf-stable pickles).
Do we have to worry about damaging the enamel on the teeth? I used to drink it diluted in a glass, using a straw to get it past the teeth to protect them. I stopped drinking it when I finished the bottle. Now I have diverticulitis and I don’t know if ACV is good for that. I assume that it is since it would help flush out bad bacteria, but I am going to wait to speak with a doctor before restarting.
Well put. I like acv because it is actually a short chain fatty acid and impossible for the body to store and must be burned immediately. This throws cells in your gut into oxidative phoshphorylation which has many health effects. But this is all ruined when you add in some sugar! I put the powdered form in a capsule, that is the easiest way for me.
I drink 1 Table spoon ACV with a tall glass of water. This I find bearable and extremely beneficial. My migraine headaches have almost completely disappeared! My kidney stone symptoms disappeared with in 12 of starting ACV the very first time, Its because of those symptoms and drinking ACV that I discovered by accident that ACV is very effective at minimising the chance of migraine head aches. This has just been my experience. I hope you give ACV a chance too.
Great content 🙂 Got an idea for next article “How to gain your belly fast”. It might sound strange at the beggining but it draws attention and we might relate to the things that will be mentioned in the article and stop doing them. With some proper comments we might also get a grasp why those things are increasing the belly fat
At 56yo, I’ve suffered with IBS most of my life. I started using ACV about 4 years ago, initially as an addition to a weight loss plan, but what I found almost immediately, is I stopped suffering from stomach problems, absolutely sorted the IBS issue out. Highly recommend a good organic one, 1 large table spoon in a glass of water twice a day.
Thanks for the great article Dr. Ekberg! I never realized how bad the gummies were for you. How about ACV supplement capsules? The serving size for the brand I have is two capsules with a total of 900 mg of “Apple Cider Vinegar Powder”, but also includes Maltodextrin, Stearic Acid, and the ingredients for the gelatin capsule. Probably still not as good as straight up ACV or the foods you mention in the article, but maybe better than the gummies? I’m one of those that just can’t stand the taste of ACV.
I’m one of the lucky ones that actually likes the taste of apple cider vinegar. I know drinking it straight from the bottle can harm the teeth, but I take 2 teaspoons every morning, straight out of the Bragg’s ACV bottle onto a spoon and chase it down with some sips of water to wash off my teeth before brushing them. If I don’t feel like a “straight shot” of ACV, I will mix 2 teaspoons in some water and drink it down, still chasing it with a few sips of fresh, filtered artesian water. The benefits are amazing, folks.
(Video request.) First, Thank you for all your articles. I’ve learned so much since I’ve found your website. I really appreciate all of your health and wellness advice. Do you have any advice regarding what to eat or not to eat for eye health? I have epiretinal membrane that’s affecting my central vision. Thank you!
Sadly, ads for these gummies are popping up everywhere, and I can imagine how so many people fall for the ”dream” they seem to offer. Organic ACV with the mother ( my preferred choice ) is my go to, and only one ingredient is listed: Organic ACV. A few years ago, green tea pills ads came with the promise of major weight loss. Unfortunately, the dosage of green tea per pill was too high and therefore toxic. Many women died as a result of taking the product. I was working as a nurse at the time and this terrified me. I remember approaching my pharmacist about this and asked him to remove the product from the shelves. Taking better care of our health and our overall wellbeing is so worth it, and Dr Ekberg is showing us the way. Thank you Dr!
