The Magic Chef Oven self-clean process starts when the oven turns on and the clean symbol lights up in the display. To clean the interior of the Magic Chef MCSWOE24S oven, remove any racks or accessories and wipe the interior surfaces with a damp cloth. Always unplug the convection oven from the electrical outlet and allow the parts to cool completely before storing or disassembling it for cleaning.
To troubleshoot your Magic Chef RV oven, open the oven door, remove the metal shelf, and check the pilot light area for food debris. If clean, try holding the ‘Self-Clean’ setting, which heats up to high temperatures, incinerating any food residue or spills. Use baking soda and water paste and a nylon brush to safely scrub the bulk of food particles off the oven liner.
When the oven is locked, press the up or down arrows to select your Magic Chef Oven self-clean time. With the door open, hold the door switch in (plunger) and start the self-clean process. If the oven won’t self-clean, move the door lock lever to the locked position and press the SELF-CLEAN pad. If the door is not locked, follow the instructions to fix the problem yourself.
If you own a Magic Chef oven, you don’t have to worry about hand-cleaning the appliance. The Magic Chef Oven self-clean process is simple: dust off crumbs, soak the glass top in oven cleaner, let it sit for at least 30 minutes, wipe off all cleaner, and do a happy dance.

Our electric stove looks very similar to yours. We recently moved into an apartment. I was concerned about using this feature, because I don’t know the history of this oven. Self-clean is currently running ( 9/25/2024. Timer shows 3:11 left for the cycle). The odor that you mentioned is real, however it is slowly going away. Fingers crossed and Fire Extinquisher at hand. Thank you for the article.
Thanks for this article, I have a self clean also but didnt have any clue what to do with it so I never even touched it. I don’t cook very often but my roommate does and he’s a slob and I know he’s never going to do it so I might as well learn unless I want the house smelling like burned pizza everytime it gets turned on.
Thank you. This isn’t even my oven, but I used your article to get mine to work. All I had to do was flip the door lock switch. On my oven, the rest was self-explanatory. I’ve moved around constantly for years and haven’t been in one place long enough to need to clean the oven. Also, I mostly use a convection over on the counter because you don’t have to pre-heat it. I have used the self-cleaning on an oven before, but it’s probably been a good 15 years. I couldn’t remember what to do! That was way too much explaining for a simply thank you. I just feel like making excuses because I’m an adult and I should already know this stuff. LOL
Just had my kitchen aid oven repaired after using self cleaning feature. Was told by the technician NOT to use self cleaning as it gets so hot that it burns out control boards and thermostat (?). I will go back to baking soda and vinegar to clean mine as i didnt realized that self cleaning got so hot that it damages ovens.
