Spell Hit Chance is an attribute found on items that increases the base chance for a spell to land against a target by 1. It is based on the attacker’s level vs. the target’s level, which is mitigated by hit chance. the target’s level (which is mitigated by hit chance), and the second is based on the spell’s ability to hit.
When spells miss, they will show up as “resisted” on the target, related to hit rating, not resistance. Resistance reduces the damage of spells of the same level. In expansions past, there was a focus on eliminating “clipping” or the start of one spell before the first one had finished. However, in recent expansions, there has been a focus on increasing the chance to hit with spells, which is capped at 99.
Talents can also modify abilities, such as interrupts, silences, stuns, and other types of loss of control. Spells have a base 16 chance to miss vs. a Lv 63 boss and 3 chance to miss vs. Lv 60 targets. Some talents say “chance to resist”, but truly mean “miss”.
Unremovable resistance causes hit-capped players to see less than their target’s hit chance. Players have a 1 chance for spells to resist (miss) on any target, even if they are 50 levels lower than them. A spell that fails to hit is shown as a miss, while misses caused by a target’s resistance are shown as a resist. Healing spells always hit, and healers do not. However, if players attempt to attack targets 4 or more levels above their character level, their spells may still miss.

What is the chance to resist a spell wow classic?
When hit by a direct-damage spell, characters can resist 100, 75, 50, 25, or 0 of the spell’s damage, depending on their resistance score. The average percentage of damage resisted is the weighted average of resistance percentages for each level of resistance. For example, a fire resistance score of 250 would averagely resist 75 of the damage of a level-50 mage’s fire spell, while a fire resistance of 100 would averagely resist 30 of the spell’s damage. This illustrates how resistance scores affect the effectiveness of spells against level-50 characters.

Does spell pen work in PvE?
Spell penetration is a PvP stat used to aid casters against players with resistance gear or buffed with extra resistance. In PvE, targets of higher levels have a base resistance (2 mitigation per level difference) that cannot be overcome by spell penetration or any other stat. Spell penetration cannot reduce a target’s resistance below zero. The formula for spell penetration is simple: each point of penetration negates one point of a target’s resistance.
The min() function means the minimum of two values, indicating that spell penetration greater than a target’s base resistance has no effect. For instance, a level 70 player with 30 spell penetration can cast a fire spell at a level 70 player buffed with 40 fire resistance, resulting in the spell resist check being performed as if the target had 10 fire resistance.
