Moon magic, also known as ‘Moon magick’, is a practice that involves harnessing the energy of the entire Moon cycle to amplify intentions, spellwork, manifestations, and release. It involves using the different phases and energies of the moon, such as the freshness of the New Moon or the culmination of power at the Full Moon, to enhance rituals, spells, and personal growth.
Moon magic is associated with the moon, and it is believed that working rituals at the time of different phases of the moon can bring about physical or psychological change or transformation. These rituals have historically occurred on or around the full moon and to a lesser extent the new moon.
The moon can symbolize illumination, insight, and guidance, bringing people back to their deepest feelings, roots, and memories. Moon magic helps practitioners take better care of themselves and others, honoring the rhythms and cycles of the moon. One of the simplest and best uses of full moon energy is to meditate in its light for clarity on a situation.
Lunar magick is a form of sympathetic magic where practitioners work their witchcraft and spellwork in accordance with the natural phases of the moon. This phase is used to perform spells and rituals aimed at minor banishings and cleansings, whether in physical terms or bringing closure to others.
Moon magic is an archetype of magic, with three types: full moon, new moon, and Crescent moon. Dark moon magic is often used to release and let go of what no longer serves a person’s highest good. Moon magic is the use of the lunar energy and moon cycles to empower spell craft, and magical practitioners often use the moon’s phases to guide their practices.
In summary, moon magic is a powerful practice that involves aligning one’s spiritual and magical activities with the phases of the moon, using the lunar energies to enhance rituals, spells, and personal growth.

How does lunar magic work?
Lunar magick is a form of sympathetic magic where practitioners work their spells and rituals in accordance with the natural phases of the moon. These phases, from waxing to waning, are given a magickal correspondence that informs a witch’s practice. The correspondences stem from humanity’s history with the moon as a calendar, navigation tool, and symbol of fertility. In the contemporary Western world, the moon is often thought of as feminine and linked to women, fertility, and feminine cycles.
Working with the moon is a flexible form of witchcraft that can be as in-depth and complicated as desired or simply about connecting with the beauty of nature’s rhythms. Practitioners can dedicate their magick to lunar living or engage in a new or full moon ritual whenever it suits them. The moon is not fickle, so don’t be shy and give it a try in a way that feels right to you.
What is moon useful for?
The Moon, the brightest and largest object in our night sky, plays a pivotal role in Earth’s habitability by moderating its axis wobble, thereby ensuring a stable climate and generating tides. The far side of the Moon receives the same amount of sunlight as the near side, and, like Earth, it has a diurnal cycle that is subject to change as a result of its rotation. The Sun illuminates approximately half of the surface of the Moon, while the remaining half remains in darkness.
What is the moon magic about?

What are the powers of the moon magic?
Moon magic is a belief that rituals performed at different phases of the moon can bring about physical or psychological change or transformation. These practices have historically occurred around the full moon and to a lesser extent the new moon. Witches in Greek and Roman literature were often accused of “drawing down the Moon” by using a magic spell to demonstrate their powers, perform a love spell, or extract a magical juice from the Moon. These beliefs are consistent with many other cultures traditions, as casting of the spell is often done during the full moon’s apex.
Moon Magic is the title of several neopagan books, including Dion Fortune’s “Moon Magic”, Hassan Jaffer’s “Moon Magic”, and Lori Reid’s “Moon Magic: How to Use the Moon’s Phases to Inspire and Influence Your Relationships, Home Life, and Business”.
How to use the moon spiritually?
The ancient proverb “Breathe in silence”, which suggests that humans seek light and clarity from the moon, suggests that it is the moon that sees us through the darkest hours. This concept can be applied to spiritual energy harvesting, as the full moon symbolizes a time of cosmic sigh and energy peaking. The stronger the connection to the full moon, the more aligned the heart chakra, which is home to kindness and forgiveness.
This aligns the heart chakra with the moon, making it an ideal time to let go of negativity and prepare for a new chapter. By expressing your intention for forgiveness aloud to the full moon, you can harness the spiritual energy of the full and new moons to lead a more soulful life.
What does the moon spirit do?
The Moon Spirit, a white koi fish, resided in the Spirit Oasis with its partner, the Ocean Spirit, a black koi fish. The Northern waterbenders used the Moon Spirit’s power to enhance their waterbending abilities. The Moon Spirit’s color remained white, and its power only decreased when stabbed by Zhao. The moon in the sky turned red, but not entirely. Aang and Yue were affected by Zhao’s disturbance, and Yue fainted. Without the Moon Spirit, all waterbenders lost their ability to bend.
Yue, a stillborn baby, was given life by the Moon Spirit, causing her hair to turn white. She returned her life to the Moon Spirit by lying beside it in the oasis pool, and blue-white energy leapt from Yue and moved into the Moon Spirit, turning her hair black. Yue’s body did not disappear, but was left behind as a lifeless vessel mourned by Sokka. Her sacrifice gave the Moon Spirit life and allowed the defenders to return their waterbending abilities and fight back firebending invaders.

What energy does the moon give off spiritually?
Moon phases represent feminine energy, wisdom, intuition, and spiritual connection. They are influenced by the Moon’s orbital period, which is once every 29 days, and its position to the Sun, which is lit by the Sun, determines its appearance in the sky. The Moon’s phases and appearance depend on its relationship with the Sun, with the part illuminated in the sky being the part of the Moon that is visible.
What does the power of the moon do?
The Moon impacts life on Earth in three main ways: time, tides, and light. Birds rely on the Moon for migration and navigation, while others time their reproduction to coincide with specific lunar cycles. Tides and moonlight properties also influence adaptations. Circadian rhythms, day and night cycles driven by Earth orbiting the Sun, are influenced by the lunar clock. However, human circadian rhythms can be disrupted by jet lag or clock changes.
How to get spiritual power from moon?
As the full moon illuminates the night sky, engage in quiet contemplation by gazing at it and absorbing its radiant light. It is recommended that the reader visualize their intentions merging with the moon’s energy, thereby amplifying their power.
📹 Lunar Witchcraft | Working magic with the moon
Today we are talking about lunar witchcraft and working magic with the moon – for spiritual people, witchcraft practitioners, and …
I’m neither Wiccan nor witch, but I do follow the Wheel of the Year, and value your insights. I’ve worked in mental health for years, and I can attest that the full moon does, indeed, influence the mental health crises and behaviors people experience. Also, I was just in the ER last weekend, and could hear the medical staff talking about how busy it was, and how it seemed like a full moon. As Judy Collins sang so beautifully, the moon is a harsh mistress, (but oh so enchanting)!
A teeny spell I like to do on the new and full moon; on the new moon, write down something I want to rid myself of on a piece of paper and burn it. On the full moon, I write down something I want to obtain on a bay leaf and burn that. They are basically the same spell but u can always amp it up with a candle of the appropriate color, use a magical oil or powder to match your intentions, etc. what I love about this is that I can do it even when I only have an extra 5 min to spare in my day.
My favorite is the new moon when it’s just a little sliver in the wee hours of the morning. When my kids were young we would go out and check on the moon and the weather. It was our getting ready for bed ritual. If it was raining we would peek out the window in the door and watch the rain for a minute or two, glad we were warm and dry.
One of my favorite ways of using moon magic is incorporating moon water into simmer pots. I feel like it gives the pot so much more dimension and you can use water charged by different moon phases accordingly with the herbs in the simmer pot and its honestly just a fun extra step too. It feels much more dramatic pouring ✨enchanted✨ water from a fancy container into the pot I feel like lol
Absolutely charming. If Martha Stewart and Julia Child where witches.. lol. I can’t imagine the amount of work that goes into each of these presentations. You produce the prettiest and most educational / inspirational content. And your teaching via example … great “real life” style. Thank you! thank you!
Lately I’ve started to look into Moon magick and works! That’s because I’ve just recently noticed some unkown patterns in my behaviour: I’m always particulary emotional before a full moon, I always feel the urge to clean things before the new moon, with the first quarter moon either some kind of problem rises or I find strength to overcome past problems and with the last quarter moon I’m always trowing away something (old mindset, bad habit, physical things etc)
Wow!! I just pulled out my moon magic books a couple of days ago! So weird how everything is coming together in the past month with my readings at home and on YouTube and with life in general. What a great time!! Happy new year! 🥂 When I’m least connected to myself, I don’t get tarot or oracle cards that resonate. When I am in need and connected to myself, literally things are thrown at me whether it’s online, reading, art, it’s crazy how this happens every time.
I don’t know… I go back and forth between skepticism and a “feeling” of connectedness with the moon. (Don’t know why I put that in quotes. Just “felt” like it. 🙂 ) But, hey, the moon is a big ole hunk from the earth. Well, come to think of it, the earth and moon are big ole hunks of the universe. So, yeah, connectedness. I’ll keep on making my moon water. Thank y’all for allowing me to work that out for myself in the comments. Hee hee.
Hi Bex! I’m fairly new to your website, but have been binge perusal your articles for a couple of weeks now😉 Loving the whole atmosphere here, mixing the magical information with folklore and lots of coziness❣😇 Your articles always put me in a joyful mood. I’ve always been drawn to witchcraft, but only started since a month or so to seriously dive again into the hands-on practicalities of it. It just makes me happy😍 Having a background of cognitive neurospychology, I’m fascinated by the roll of the psyche in witchcraft and also love to approach things from a scientific point of view / figuring out the science behind it 🙂 I can totally imagine the moon having an actual effect on human beings, considering that it has the awesome power to affect the tides of the sea with its gravity for example, and to think that our bodies are 70/75 % water. It would make total sense to me. So I’m really excited to learn more about lunar magic and experiment with it😊🌛🔮 Thank you for teaching us!🙏
Hiya LOVELY,I have loved the moon since I was a little bitty girl.I feel a Motherly energy.I just got back from dropping a little posy offering in the river and the almost full moon above..Beautiful!My mum used to say to me a saying_THE MOON ON THE ONE SIDE, THE SUN ON THE OTHER.THE MOON IS MY SISTER,THE SUN IS MY BROTHER.Always made me cosy at bedtime.Thank you for another lovely visit😊
Another beautiful article, and on the Moon 🌛🌝🌜 Your article’s are so cozy to watch and get lost in. A article on the Full Moon would be amazing. I’ve been charging water by the full moon, and giving to my elderly cat as his drinking water, and I’ve noticed changes in his energy levels. Looking forward to any new information you may have on the energies of the Moon 🌝 Have a most Magical Day from Florida, USA.
Thank you, Bex, for another information-dense and visually stunning article! I learn so much from you. I’ve never done many things “by the moon” but I do find a lunar-based practice interesting. I truly wish I could participate in your workshops, but there’s just no room in my budget. (Life keeps getting more and more expensive here in the USA.) ❤️
Hola! Thank-you for this informational amd entertaining film. It’s beautifully produced also. When I first started practicing my Craft, I kept a journal consistantly. I noticed a definite pattern in the flow of my month that totally reflected the moon’s place. One almost has to record these things to see the pattern because it all is going by too fast to just remember. Namaste
You didn’t mention lunar effect of tides on water -we being proportioned with plenty of it inside. Also something Ive read of air tides, and earth tides would be interesting to hear about from you. Things that bought to my attention what might be behind the “feeling” I get that I associate with what I’ve been calling magic. Will look up my source and come back to mention here in hopes you’ll cover it. Thanks for the articles. Yours are exceptional and just plain fun.🐝
I love the illustrator of the tarot card u placed against ur little mirror! I noticed it right away. I have one of her Oracle decks and I’m not even that into reading the cards but was so drawn to the imagery. I love all ur ideas in this article. Thanks for sharing with us! U always make me laugh so I really enjoy when I see u have posted a new article.
I do like to watch the moon and I do make moon water from time to time I had to laugh when you spoke about the different hemispheres… when I moved from Australia to Canada I was so upset and horrified when I looked up and I could not see the rabbit in the moon !!!! but now after & calmed down I kinda feel happy and feel a little closer to home when I see the moon I feel that it the same sun that shines so I can see the moon and it make me feel connected to my loved ones in Australia on the other side of the globe… lol I don’t know…. it makes sense in my head 😋
The full moon is very calming for me to sit under. It creates an atmosphere that energizes me. I also use the moon cycle for gardening; hair cutting; surgery for humans and animals such as spay/neuters. I have done it without the moon’s energy being right and there were complications. This happened more than once. My vet now goes by the moon phases. By the way is not this your birth month? If so Happy Birthday🎉
I am happy your articles are not MOONdane…. ha ha So, thank you for your articles. They are so great. I love listening to you talk – I don’t want to guess wrong or assume that you are German although I’ve seen you holding what looks to be a lot of German books and the way you pronounced some words with a “v” like the word “witches” – but I love your accent. You are very informative and always have interesting topics. I especially like this article because when you spoke about your grandma, it immediately made me think of my grandma and grandpa (my grandpa being from German lineage) and they never did anything that wasn’t in accordance with the moon. Luckily, they taught me how to live by the moon cycles as well, and the knowledge they passed along has not gone to waste. I don’t even rely on the weather website for my weather information – I know what the weather is going to be like based upon observing nature, such as the birds and livestock. Loved this article so much.
i ABSOLUTLY LOVE AND ENJOY your articles! They have helped me in so many way to better my magical practice and provide new perspectives especially on practices i used to struggle doing. Do you have any male witch recommendations to watch? im always looking to expand my arsenal of places to gather good information in order to grow my practice.
If you look up the Institute of Physics article about the moon’s impact on earth and everything on earth right down the seasons changing, to the life cycles of many animals and fish, to the fact that the Earth would wobble right off its axis and become dangerously unstable without it-I would say that the moon isn’t to be taken lightly. We owe it a lot in our lives. It has considerable influence over life on this planet-including our own lives. It literally grounds us and keeps us stable. The whole thing could come unhinged and fall apart without it. Not to mention that if you really look at it in the night sky-it has its own magic. Any person who ever looked up at it in the night feels something deep inside while staring at it. It has power. It has influence. It has made humans feel a certain way since the dawn of mankind. Maybe that’s just me, but I’ve always felt it’s power from a young age. It feels very comforting. It reflects light at us when we have none without it when sun isn’t in our sky-wherever we are in the world when that happens.
Sky house herb school and apothecary is website I watched the article about moon tides where they also mentioned air tides and continental tides. Mentions were too brief leaving me wanting more understanding.. if you’re interested please do a study on it and let us know what you think on it’s connection to a possibility of a natural magical influence inside us. I will be trying to search out myself but I really suck at research. Not meaning to seem pushy, just love your thorough but concise wrap on subjects. 🐝
There are several studies that support the belief that the moon indeed has an impact, physical and emotionally speaking. The tides are higher when the moon is full because at that time the gravity from the moon and sun are pulling together on the earth. Moon cycles and menstrual cycles also have a connection in many women. The moon in astrology represents our emotional self, so the sign and lunar phase at birthtime gives us some guidelines about the phsychological traits and possible emotional manifestations, even Carl Jung used astrology as a complementary tool. I think that most beliefs related to the moon aren’t just faith related, they’re are based upon secular experience. The different moon cycles pinpoint many things in nature, and by observation we can identify that. Most of us today just don’t have the time…at the present moment we live in a society that doesn’t incorporate the natural cycles, because all cycles have an inactivity, introspective, resting phase…and we have to be always productive, productive…
Hi! I, like you, am a skeptic about many things. The affects of the moon on us is not just a belief, however. We can see the effects every day in our oceans’ tides. We can also see the effects in the medical community if we track the trends over time. I’m a nurse, and I’ve worked in hospitals for decades. I work in a trauma center, and we see a definite uptick in traumas when there is a full moon. We also have a labor and delivery unit, and we see an increase in women going into labor when there is a full moon. Do with that info what you will, and obviously we all need to decide what we believe. I just wanted to share some objective observations that have been made regarding the moon’s effects on us.
Hey darlin! Would you please post the other article you did before on moon magic? I have looked and don’t see it. I’d love to learn more about Moon Magic that is tied back to German beliefs. I’ve just found out I am 89.6% pure German, after doing my family history. Of course most of my family is way north of you. Around the Hartz Mtns area. ❤️🇩🇪❤️
…..omg…it really is the other way on the southern hemisphere ? now i feel like a jerk for saying someone drew the crescent the wrong way in an evening portrait Dx (i always learn SOMETHING from your articles) also makes sense as to why there are both ways when i look up moon phase charts.. for some reason on my witchy calendar i drew a southern hemisphere one though i live on the northern haha XD Im sure its different no matter where you are in the corners of the world, its very interesting how much is ‘westernized’, based as if the northern hemisphere is the only to exist. i thought to myself one day “nobody talks about the southern lights’ its like the idea never existed before i thought to think that everything has its polarity! I like the idea of learning why moons are called what they are, so they I can apply it to my own surroundings. I had named a few full moons last year based on my locality, for instance- March was Salamander Full Moon (because it was raining and we didnt get to see the full moon last year-but on my island the first heavy rain of March the salamanders migrate(across the road) and i got to see it for the first time!) Fishes’ Moon (Autumn fishing season-it was also a pisces full moon-and i filmed fishes frolicking in the moonlight) July, Firefly Moon because there were fireflies dancing in the twilight as the Moon rose.
I love making moon water on a full moon🫙🌕💦 Recently though I’ve also been making “moon milk” for my baby. I simply put freshly pumped breast milk in a glass jar and leave it under the full moon alongside my jars of water. I of course attach an intention, mainly of good health, safety and sweet dreams for my precious little one🤍 I only leave it out for a few hours and then feed it to him as his middle of the night or early morning meal🍼
