Is The Rite a Catholic movie?

The Rite: The Making of a Modern Exorcist by Matt Baglio is a book that provides a detailed account of the Catholic Church’s exorcism practices. The book is based on the Catechism, scripture, and official instructions for exorcists, and is considered careful and balanced. The movie, on the other hand, takes a more sensational approach and takes a lot of cinematic liberty with Catholic rites.

The Church is cautious when approving an exorcism, ensuring that natural causes are not the cause of the afflicted person’s behavior. Bishops typically do not approve an exorcism until psychotherapists, psychiatrists, and medical doctors have thoroughly examined the afflicted person and generally agree that natural or organic causes are not at work.

The Ritual stipulates that an exorcist may use prayers only when they are “morally certain” that the person they are praying over is possessed. Many mental illnesses can be mistaken for possession, and experts must carefully evaluate the possibility of possession before performing formal exorcisms. Overall, the book is a valuable resource for those interested in learning more about the ancient Rite of the Church.

  • I’ve always chuckled at these movies. You know, if i were the devil, i won’t ever possess or show myself infront of humans. Because if devils exist, so does God, and that would make some people even more devout and happy 😂 So as a human if a devil shows up, i’ll just say “do what you must, i’ve won”😂😂

  • Satan’s greatest trick may have been to convince the world he does not exist. But surely his second greatest trick was to convince the believers that he is a comic book character who appears rarely and laughs maniacally — and has nothing to do with their own state. But the battle of good and evil runs down the middle of every soul. Good and evil are within us and around us all, but neither express as comic-book magic tricks.

  • Am an atheist but i do enjoy these movies. However i think its an insult to the actors this entire”absence of faith” shit. You literally see this girl contort unnaturally, spit nails. You see the old priest go from state to state, contort and hear your own dead father. And the kid’s bite marks out of the blue. Yet he doesn’t believe. If i got this kind of proof i’d be looking for the entire pantheon of gods.

  • “The Rite” is one of the freakiest excorcist movies I’ve ever seen.. glad it came with a good ending.. in the end, Jesus will stand on satans throat and cast him into the lake of sulphur when the thousand years are up!! The beast will no longer be able to manipulate and seduce humanity into eternal damnation.. what a glorious day that will be! ☦️☦️

  • What a load of BS! I’m not talking about the content of the movie compared to reality, because it’s just a movie, but even in a fantasy context, the movie should be consistent and make sense.Discussing about faith after a supernatural being has already shown itself makes no sense, because there’s nothing to believe at that point, since they’re already witnessing the reality of its existence.

  • ATTENTION!!!!! HELL IS REAL!!! WHERE WILL YOU GO WHEN YOU DIE?? WE CAN NOT HIDE OUR SINS FROM GOD. WE MUST REPENT AND PUT OUR FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST AS OUR LORD AND SAVIOR SO THAT WE MAY HAVE ETERNAL LIFE IN HEAVEN. Mark 1:15 …The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
