Did Portia Know About The Plot To Assassinate Someone?

In Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, Portia, Brutus’s wife, becomes aware of the conspiracy against Caesar after awakening and becoming aware that Brutus has stolen from her bed. When Brutus joined the conspiracy to murder Caesar in 44 BC, Portia insists on being informed of the assassination plot before it happens. However, Brutus disregards her “sick offense” and the events that follow ultimately lead to her suicide.

Portia is intelligent and perceptive, aware of the tension surrounding the conspiracy against Caesar. Her mental state is one of anxiety, but Brutus disregards her identification with him. The events that follow ultimately lead to her suicide. Porcia Catonis, daughter of Cato and wife of Brutus, was the only woman privy to the plot, as described by Roman historian Cassius Dio. She waits anxiously for news of their success and meets the Soothsayer, who still fears for Caesar.

Brutus has been trying to avoid telling his wife about the assassination plot, but they grow angry and reconcile. He tells Cassius of Portia’s death and plans their military with Titinius and Messala. The more dramatic ending has a devastated Porcia killing herself, either by swallowing hot coals or swallowing hot coals.

Brutus is a powerful and dangerous foe, but he is doubtful about the assassination plot. At the beginning of Act 2, Brutus agrees to participate in the assassination but insists that killing Caesar must be an honorable act. Confusion over Brutus getting the news of Portia’s death is evident, as she uses her marriage vows to manipulate him into telling her about the assassination plot.

Why does Portia stab her thigh?

In William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, Portia, a character who is acutely aware of the frustration of being left in the dark, stabs herself in the thigh as a means of demonstrating her trustworthiness to her husband, Brutus.

What does Portia’s death symbolize?

Portia’s demise serves to foreshadow Brutus’s own impending demise, as his suicide results in a loss of motivation and a reduction in the factors that sustain his desire to live. This experience, analogous to the apparition of Caesar, portends his own impending demise and destruction.

What is the main problem that Portia has?

Portia, who is characteristically self-possessed, discloses her trepidation toward Bassanio when he arrives at her residence and is on the verge of selecting a casket. This is due to the fact that she has developed romantic feelings for him, a development that has caused her considerable confusion and distress.

What does Portia wounding her thigh symbolize?

The painting “Portia” by Elisabetta Sirani depicts a woman wielding a knife, with her thigh exposed and bloody stab wounds. This self-inflicted lacerations are intentional and calculated, as seen in her posture and face. The painting is a testament to the power and standing of the woman, who is dressed in an ornate robe, golden sash, and regal-looking blue boot. By the age of 19, Elisabetta was already an independent artist, and when her father, who was also an artist, became immobilized by gout, she took over the running of his workshop and supported her entire family through her art. The painting raises questions about the nature of self-harm and the role of women in shaping history.

How do we know that Portia is aware of the conspiracy?

In Act 2, Scene 1, Portia, a woman aware of a conspiracy against Caesar, shares her suspicions with Lucius and the Soothsayer. She supports her husband and wants them to succeed. Portia is intelligent and perceptive, aware of the tension surrounding the conspiracy. Her mental state is filled with anxiety and distress, as she struggles with the secret knowledge and her concern for Brutus’s safety. This inner turmoil ultimately leads to her tragic death, highlighting her deep emotional involvement and the strain of the conspiracy. In Act 2, Portia demonstrates love and respect for her husband, Brutus, and confronts him about his recent behavior.

What is Portia trying to discover through her questions?

Portia is concerned about her husband Brutus’s behavior, which is affecting his eating, talking, and sleeping. She has also seen masked conspirators visiting the house. Brutus refuses to confide in her, so Portia lists the reasons why he can trust her. Brutus admires her honor and integrity and promises to share his secrets with her soon.

What does Portia reveal at the end of the play?

Antonio pleads with Portia to forgive Bassanio, who returns rings to their husbands and reveals that Portia was the lawyer who saved Antonio. She also tells Antonio that three of his ships have successfully returned and that Lorenzo is Shylock’s heir. Portia advises Bassanio to postpone choosing, fearing he might make the wrong choice. Bassanio is overjoyed when he correctly chooses the lead chest containing her picture. Portia gives Bassanio a ring as a symbolic act to indicate her giving to him both herself and everything that is hers.

Gratiano announces that he and Nerissa will also marry. Salerio, Lorenzo, and Jessica arrive with news of Antonio’s financial ruin and the destruction he will soon suffer at Shylock’s hands. Portia offers to pay the debt many times over and tells Bassanio to return to Venice immediately after their wedding to save Antonio.

In the text, Portia prays for Antonio to pause and forbear before making a wrong choice, as he loses his company and may be forsworn to never be. She bespeaks to Antonio about the naughty times and the division between owners and their rights, stating that they are both theirs. She also speaks too long, but it is to peize the time and stay Antonio from election.

Does Portia know about Brutus plan?

Portia, Brutus’s wife, is cognizant of Caesar’s involvement in a plan but is unaware of the specifics due to her paranoia about violent noises emanating from the building.

What happens to Portia at the end of the play?

In Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice, Portia and Bassanio live together, with Nerissa and Gratiano. Portia is a character who rebels against patriarchal control, rebelling against her father and becoming confident, witty, and resourceful. Critics disagree on the extent of help Portia gives Bassanio in her test, the choosing of caskets. J. Weiss asserted in 1876 that Portia assists Bassanio, while S. F. Johnson and Michael Zuckert support this view.

Robert Hapgood and Corinne S. Abate oppose this view, arguing that Portia’s wifely empowerment in The Merchant of Venice is a delicate balance between her role as a woman and her role as a servant. Overall, the play explores themes of power, loyalty, and the consequences of societal expectations.

What does Portia know about the conspiracy based on her action in Act 2 Scene 3?

In Act 2, Scene 3, Artemidorus awaits the receipt of a letter from Caesar, which will serve to inform him of a conspiracy. Portia, who has been made aware of the conspiracy to assassinate Caesar, awaits with trepidation the outcome of their endeavour. She encounters the Soothsayer, who still harbors concerns for Caesar’s safety and seeks to alert him to the potential danger.

What are two of Portia's concerns at the end of Scene 4?

What are two of Portia’s concerns at the end of Scene 4?

In the scene, Portia is prevented from acting by two factors: her gender and her fear of her husband’s plan being discovered. These factors contribute to the mounting tension at the end of Act II. She is unable to provide assistance to him, despite her lack of knowledge.

  • The fact that he published that report about the president of Ecuador while depending on them for his safety shows an unbelievable amount of integrity. He’s a very smart man and must have known the potential consequences for biting the hand that was holding him safe but even still, he stuck to his belief in free press and giving whistle blowers a platform to be heard even at his own expense. This man is a hero on so many levels and I honestly can’t stop thinking about this. An awe inspiring amount of integrity.

  • I met Assange at the World Social Forum back in 2007 when I was acting as a interpreter for his WikiLeaks session. Aside from my friend and I (also an interpreter), nobody attended the session so we ended up being his audience of two. I remember asking him if he was afraid of the consequences of what he was doing. Was he not afraid? Did he not feel insecure? He said no, his security came from the philosophy that ‘ the enemy of my enemy is my friend’s so this would be his protection as they would want to know the secrets of their enemies. In the short time we engaged, he taught me to ask questions and imagine a world where the person seating next to you may not be what they seem/ who you assume they are. I don’t think he ever imagined the impact that WikiLeaks would have on the world. He also carried around a huge travel bag that was very heavy..as if he carried all his belongings wherever he went. I asked him if it was very heavy. He answered yes, and that he liked the heavy load. That whenever he got used to it, it was time to add to the load. Maybe that is his life philosophy.

  • As an Ecuadorian citizen I feel utterly ashamed by the actions of my government. Our previous leader, Rafael Correa, gave asylum to Assange in the knowledge of him being a political persecuted by the abusive government of the US. Sadly, when Moreno became president, he betrayed all the principles for which he was elected and became completely submissive to the USA, from economic to political standpoints. Ecuador owes a big apology to journalism, human rights and most importantly to Julian.

  • The fact he was basically imprisoned for one (or two?) years without ANY social contact (no visits, no internet, no phone, no going out onto that balcony) in the Embassy, after which he was made a laughing stock by MSM for “spreading faeces on walls” and “destroying his apartment” (which any of us would have done after solitary confinement) was disgusting. And that was used as an excuse to get him out of the embassy and extradited.

  • Why the f***k is he being extradited to US when he is an Australian citizen. He should be in Aus jail. Though he didn’t do anything other Starting a platform for anyone to share the information society needs to know not the one govts feeds them. Unbiased journalism rarely exist but unbiased facts probably by the Victim or witness themselves is still possible. Platforms like these should exist.

  • Just to clarify why Assange was afraid of being extradited from Sweden is because Swedish authorities has broken this before and cooperated with the CIA and that ended up with people in an Egyptian prison that has been used as a Black Site. This was an incident that occurred in 2001 a few months after 9/11 and was revealed by Swedish investigative journalists in 2004. The scandal is often referred to as the Egyptian affair or the Egyptian scandal since both men were Egyptians seeking asylum in Sweden.

  • It should be noted that, while the British denied extradition to the US based on his “mental health,” the real reason related to the US refusing Britain’s request of assurance that Assange would not be placed in ADX Florence, which some consider to be an inhumane prison. This is largely cited as the reason he remains in Britain, though the British are in the process of allowing the extradition (with Assange, of course, fighting the extradition).

  • Talks about how bad the CIA is and recommends a private VPN service, which like all other VPN service, is pretty much a guarantee that your data is routed through servers controlled by one single entity under the guise that this network, which runs on top of the same Internet, is somehow safer. Best example of a CIA plot.

  • You are missing a little detail, a little “fun fact”: Assange was granted the equadorian citizenship at the embassy. So he was an official equadorian citizen which also means that he is protected by equadorian law which states that the state can not hand out citizens of equador to another nation. To do so anyways the equadorian government just withdrew his citizenship without any given reason and without giving him time to go to court over that decision. And no the cats poo was probably not the reason. Equador had a change in government around that time and the new government seeked to improve their relations with the US. That’s why they changed their course.

  • That shooting in new Baghdad was the article that broke my brother, he saw that article and it disturbed him so much it messed him up for months. He felt an huge sense of guilt for living in a country that actively supported that war and aided in the cover up of war crimes like this. Its a frightening view of what our military actually behaves like and stands for, its a disgrace to our country.

  • I live in sweden and hearing that the swedish police for once even cared about someone who assaulted someone is like a first. I was assaulted when i was 9 to the age of 11 and the guy hasnt even been mandated to see a shrink or something. It’s genuinely horrifying how rapists get like 3 months in prison and then get paid for the work they missed. Sweden is great at rehabilitation and has a much lower re-offend percentage but it feels like sexual assault shouldnt just be a crime where you get rehabilitation you should at least get like 2 years in prison and you should have to pay for the person’s psychiatric treatment for the future because for me sexual assault/rape on a minor is one of the worst crimes you can commit. Sorry for my rant I’m just fed up by all the stories on the news about rapists getting paid and shit like that.

  • its sad to see that instead of reflecting ones mistakes and changing them in the future, the govs are trying to cover up the shit they have done, not admitting things if it could hurt their image they try to reflect. Its sickening, wrong and absolutly scary that the truth is not the norm instead they lie about things if it helps to keep the picture running. If you want a relationship to work out, we all know that admitting ones mistakes and to be open with one another is a key thing but as we see the relationship between govs and the people is exactly the opposite – better cover up so nobody notices – fucks me up so hard…how can we trust anymore…

  • Remember the fact this is public isn’t intentional. The US government considers foreign groups purchasing advertising on social media to be interfering in our elections. We also repeatedly claim that the US stopped interfering in the foreign elections decades ago. Or some officials claim we have never and wouldn’t get involved in another countries internal affairs, except for the nearly 50 sovereign countries that may or may have been influenced by the US. The US will always use every available means to protect economic interests. We didn’t become the world’s greatest superpower by playing fair and ethical.

  • Let me offer a bit of detail to the timeline up to JA getting to the embassy: 1.JA had his residence in Sweden (though still the Australian citizenship) because he feared the US reaction 2. While WikiLeaks was “just a website” JA already handled legal procedures for the WikiLeaks organization to become a legal entity / news publisher in Sweden 3. JA was accused of sexual harassment and taken in detention. (Was there really such a fear he’d flee or somesuch?) 4. It was immediately published that JA had raped 2 woman. (Quite surprising as the Swedish law states that until conviction the accused name may not be published! Even more surprisingly was that the news(?) / tabloid(!) papers had these information about the rape even before JA was even arrested!) 5. After JA was released on bail he was supposed to hold a speech in England and even asked the officials in Sweden if he may travel there and became an OK (in writing!). 6. Immediately after JA left for England he was convicted of having fled the country as his actions went against the bail. That England (at that time) and Sweden both are part of the EU and the written statement allowing his travel didn’t matter. 7. JA then gave himself up to the English police and was released on bail 8. Because of the “strange” happenings in / with Sweden JA now tried to argued against an extradition to Sweden – he feared an wrongful conviction (and possibly extradition to the USA) 9. As that seemingly didn’t work he fled to the Ecuadorian embassy – again an action forbidden by the bail Of course the US officials (even Obama) stated that JA was simply irrational as they were in no way involved (in this obvious smear campaign) and that they had no way to kill JA, they can’t even charge him.

  • The U.S.A does worst, look at Bolivia Evo morales was Bolivias president from 2006-2019. He was their president for so long because he was actually helping his country’s economy. He introduced programs to combat poverty, sexism, racism, and illiteracy. The country was experiencing economic grow like no other capitalist nation. The U.S saw it as a threat not to us, but to the government because if we and others saw how well Bolivia was doing, we’d be asking for a better change like Bolivia.

  • I shared this article to someone studied journalism in HKBU, who covered the 2019 protests and fled Hong Kong in July 2020. He was pissed, saying that these kinds of news, or basically anything about Assange or Snowden, undoes years of their effort teaching Hong Kongers that a democratic government protects freedom of the press. It’s just like how the BLM protests busted Hong Kongers’ dreams that a democratic society protects people against police brutality.

  • Julian Assange is a true entrepreneur, he is one super intelligent man, very attractive quality. The govt has locked up and innocent man to figure out what to do with him. Instead they should be the ones locked up for their wrongdoing and misconduct but unfortunately it does not work like that. Just disgusting.

  • Doesn’t anybody remember what triggered, a lot if this, the Americans had murdered something like 8 Iraqis while they were walking down a street minding there on business. And don’t forget the reporters who were walking down that same street who also ended up dead, the USA was imbarass because the world had got to see how blood thirsty it is,

  • reminds me of the state in my country, the number of journalists that get killed just for speaking the truth is astounding and disgusting. Their murders are smoothly brushed away and life goes on for the government as if nothing happened while innocent civilians suffer, no justice is served. At least in the western world and other developed countries, these cases get some media coverage, in my country making a youtube article like this could also get you in jail no kidding. Journalists get more time in prison than a rapist or murderer

  • Thanks for explaining this all because I was wondering why our country was suddenly after this guy and wanting him dead or alive. I never was intrigued to watch a movie about it since they are made in Hollywood… Plus these movies are always BASED on a true story, meaning they put their twist on it..lol

  • The swedish sexual assault charges was super bogus, some technicality. He was basically charged for sexual assault because he was dating 2 women at the same time, 1 of them unaware…..somehow that equates to sexual assault. The female in question when approached even said she didn’t want to press charges….

  • I immediately lose respect for people that are like, “We should have assassinated Assange.” Like bro, you’ve really been going through life saying to yourself, “It’s not what you do, it’s what you get caught doing.” Government agencies covering up murder and silencing whistleblowers can go to hell. That was the real legacy of the Obama administration.

  • Jake… please I hope you can make more articles. Freedom of speech is just a privilege. You are one of the more real independent articlegraphers I have ever seen on Youtube. I am not a religious person but I am a person of faith. All I have to say, god bless you, I hope you continue your fight and I hope you know you are making change. Thank you. Jeffery Epstein didn’t kill himself.

  • Love every one of Jake’s articles; I just hope he doesn’t end up on a hit-list and actually get taken out one day, these articles are unravelling so much of the corruption in this world. Also, if you’ve been looking for Christian sermons that tell you how it is from the Bible, this is for you. My website is dedicated to growing you into a Christian who not only listens to the word but does the word.

  • Lord, hear our prayer, let it be heard, For the strong ones, their plight be stirred. In storms, they bend, like reeds they sway, While mighty pines break and fade away. They carry the world within their care, Not just for themselves, but all to bear. For strength attracts, as physicists say, Responsibility guiding their way. Their health and might, not supreme or grand, Yet, they stand firm, a helping hand. In heart’s distress, they leap to save, A drowning child from a watery grave. But deep inside, these strong ones yearn, For understanding, as they silently discern. Loneliness masks their pain and fears, In solitude, they shed unspoken tears. Silent warriors, they tread the earth, Not always easy, their noble worth. Reliable knights, in the darkest night, They ride to aid, with courage and might. Assange, your son, embraces the weak, Enduring torment, his spirit does speak. Denied the sky’s hue, your radiant light, Unable to witness his children’s delight. Grant us the strength to act, we pray, To prevent his extradition, we say. May people know your will, divine, To resist evil’s deeds, a sacred sign. May miracles ignite through actions bold, That justice prevails, as history is told. For it’s unjust if Assange, by strife, Becomes a victim, while we enjoy life. If evil prevails, unopposed and strong, Who’ll shield us from its tyrannical throng? Assange saved lives, innocents set free, Your worthy son, an instrument of mercy. Let Christians rise, their voices resound, To protect the defender, justice to surround.

  • julia assange is CIA controlled “opposition” wikileaks and all these other “leaks groups”, snowden, alex jones, etc .. all amount to nothing, just words on a screen, nothing more nothing serious and substantial that eyes and ears can see and hear. CIA and other blakckops groups, use these puppets to create the conspiracy and the leaks and then blackmails their competitors and opponents in politics and business! thats how it is, thats how it is always been! the real people that truly leak information, the true heroes fo society…they are gone! all of them! they dont get to live and give interviews!

  • Oswald spoke probably the five most honest words in this entire affair: “I am just a PATSY” Poor old Lee, he thought (in all likelihood) that he was working as a double agent for Uncle Sam, when all along he was simply being set up as a lightning conductor for the CIA (and friends). In other words – a patsy . And he certainly wasn’t the last! It’s called ‘Standard Operational Procedure’. And even at that time of innocence, there was still so much intelligent scepticism about the risible Official Account, that the CIA’s psy-op boys in 1967 began inserting the ‘conspiracy theory’ meme into Public Consciousness – where it thrives to this day (like a maggot in an apple), among the Gullible, the Lazy, and the Simply Stupid: if the Government – backed up by A Well-Known Scientist (or actress) says that elephants can fly, it must be so. I mean, why would they lie ?

  • JFK fired CIA Director Allen Dulles. LBJ appoints him to the Warren Commission. Dulles hated Kennedy. LBJ demanded Earl Warren head the investigation commission. The guy was Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Warren was friendly with JFK and the last thing he wanted to do was head the investigating committee he knew was going to hide the truth and facts. He told LBJ he was busy being Chief Justice. LBJ grabbed Warren by his necktie, stuck his big ugly face into Warren’s, and said, ‘You will do it. Refusing is not an option.’ Warren saw the look on LBJ’s face and it sent cold shivers down his spine. At that point he was afraid to decline. He feared retaliation. Ugly stuff.

  • Raphael Cruz,( Ted’s dad), left New Orleans in 1967 as Jim Garrison’s investigation was heating up. He had abandoned his wife and went to Canada with another woman who had a baby, ( Ted ), while still in Canada…making Cruz’s run for the White House ILLEGAL, as the rule to be a President requires BOTH parents be U.S. citizens, if born outside of the U.S. Raphael worked for the Schlumberger oil company while in Canada…the SAME outfit linked to the assassination attempt against French Premiere Charles Degaulle. Trump was not wrong in calling this out…why was Cruz illegally running to begin with, like George Romney tried to do years ago ?

  • People have exhaustively investigated the crime subsequent to 1963, though often carrying the baggage of great biases. The actual law enforcement investigation was extremely haphazard. Once the president’s body was taken away from Texas, the hope of a definitive autopsy left with it even if that was not known at the time.

  • Check the swivel on the ‘back yard’ photo. The sling swivel is on the bottom of the stock. Now, look at the picture of the rifle being carried from the School Book Depository…it has a sling swivel on the side. Forget the shadows in the photo.Another incident anyone can check out. Wallets. Oswald had a wallet on him when arrested at the movie theater; there was a wallet found at the Tippet scene; and there was a wallet left with his wedding ring at Ruth Paine’s house. So, if he shot Tippet, was he carrying two wallets at the same time? How many wallets do you carry at the same time?Another thing about the back yard photo. Oswald wore only a small wedding band. What is that huge ring on the person in the photo…

  • Well, Oswald was being spied on by anti-Castro Cubans at the time. Rafael Cruz could have been there for that reason. Cubans on both sides of the Castro divide hated Kennedy. Of course, a lot of other people hated Kennedy, and they didn’t ALL kill him. (No matter what the movie said.) That kind of speculation leads anywhere and everywhere.

  • Oh Grassy knoll, oh grassy knoll, tell the truth, and tell it whole, was it Oswald, or was it Johnson, both of which were there in person. Did he die by one or three and blast aside the mystery, the man who died hated war the one who killed him loved the battle, even since then the American People have been treated like cattle.

  • I used to believe it was a conspiracy. After visiting Dealey Plaza, I no longer think it is. I am a firearms enthusiasts, and have taken precision marksman courses. Oswald was only 87 yards away. With a scoped bolt action hunting rifle, that is not a difficult shot. Anyone with minimal training could have made that shot.

  • This is what this website is about now? A website that makes political statements and clearly hates one? You started with talking about how outrageous you think it is that Donald Trump is for his beliefs about the JFK assassination, but spend 70% of the post talking about a completely different thing and his feuds with others. Yeah, you just lost a subscriber, and my friends here will be following me off of here.
